Discover the Horror Podcast Episode 32 – Conventions: The Promoter!

In our final episode in our Convention Trilogy, where we’ve already covered the fans and the dealers, we now take a step back even further to the ones that put on the show in the first place, the promoters. These are the people that rent the hotels and convention centers, get the guests, round up the vendors, do the advertising, promotions, all in the hopes in giving the fans that show up a good time with plenty to see and do. When things go wrong, they take the heat for it, but seldom get the credit when things go right, so we wanted to take a peek behind the curtain, as it were, and learn a little about what actually goes into putting on one of these conventions. To get the insight into that side of the conventions, we’ve invited Nathan Hanneman, editor in chief of HorrorHound Magazine and one of the main persons behind the Horrorhound Weekend conventions.

Discover the Horror Episode 29 – Conventions: Dealers!

We’ve already discussed conventions from a fan’s perspective, so now we’re going to go to the other side of the table and discuss what goes into becoming a dealer, what that means, what it costs, and all the other fun stuff that comes with the territory, that maybe most fans might not be aware of!Hopefully you’ll find this episode insightful, informative, and even entertaining as you hear stories about what it takes to being a dealer. With two of your three hosts being dealers for over two decades, we’ve seen a lot and hopefully can shed some light on all the pros and cons of being on that side of the table at conventions. You can always let us know your thoughts about conventions, dealers, or just being a fan by posting comments here, or through our Facebook page or Instagram.

Discover the Horror Podcast Episode 26 – Conventions: The Fans!

Horror movie conventions are one of the best places to be at if you are a die-hard fan. There’s plenty to see, buy, and people to meet, both new and old friends, as well as celebrities. Horror conventions were a very important part of a lot of us horror fans “growing up” as we learned more and more about the genre, building our collections, or just meeting new people that have become lifelong friends, or even a wife!

This is our first part in a series of episodes on conventions, so we’re going to start out at the beginning for us, such as how they all started for us and which ones did we go to, to the current shows that we still attend.

These are the different conventions that we mention during this episode:

Chiller Theatre, Cinema Wasteland, Cinevent, Crypticon, Famous Monsters, Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors, Fanex, Flashback Weekend, HorrorHound Weekend, Mid-Summer Scream, Monster Bash, Monsterpalooza, 25th Anniversary Night of the Living Dead Convention, Scarefest, Texas Frightmare

HorrorHound Next Weekend!!!

Less than a week away and we’ll be packing up the Kryptic Van and heading to Cincinnati for HorrorHound Weekend! And just looking at the huge guest lineup, it looks like this is going to be one hell of a show, as always. There is going to be someone there for all fans of the genre, from a Hocus Pocus reunion, a Killer Klowns from Outer Space reunion with the Chiodo Bros., stars Grant Cramer and Suzanne Synder, as well as Harrod Blank & Mike Martinez who played a couple of the Klowns, to so much more. HorrorHound Weekend: A Huge Success!

This last weekend was our first stop in the 2022 Kryptic World Tour, the HorrorHound Weekend in Cincinnati. If this is a sign for the things to come, this is going to be a great year! I was shocked and amazed at the turnout for this show, on all three days. Now anybody that has been to more than a few conventions know that Friday and Saturday are usually the busier days, and Sunday is just for stragglers wandering around. But the crowd for this Sunday seemed just as big as it was for the previous two days! In fact, our sales were so good on Sunday, we sold more stuff on that day than we had over three days at some smaller shows! So, a huge shout out to Nathan & Aaron, as well as all the other HorrorHound workers that made this show go as smoothly as it did and made it a lot of fun.
