Interview: Bloody Hammers

Bloody Hammers banner 1

A few years ago, I had gotten sucked into the YouTube black hole, looking for a music video, then getting sidetracked seemingly for hours, checking out different bands and such. It was on one of these excursions, that I stumbled across a video for a song called The Town that Dreaded Sundown. I clicked on it, wondering if it had anything to do with the movie. It did. What I didn’t expect was the sound and style of music. The band was called Bloody Hammers, and I quickly started to check out some of their other videos, like for Death Does Us Part. They do an amazing job not really fitting into one particular musical style. Part hard rock, gothic, maybe even a little doom metal, but it had a very unique sound and it grabbed me right away. I quickly ordered a couple of their CDs and immediately became entranced them. I found it interesting, that like The Misfits, they had a lot of song titles taken from horror movies titles, but other than the previously mentioned Sundown, they didn’t have anything to do with the actual movie. Nonetheless, there was something deep in the lyrics, sometimes like poetry laid in between this heavy sound, that really made a connection with me. Continue reading

Interview: Sergio Molina

I normally don’t like to celebrate or make note of the passing of a celebrity because it should be about remembering them and their work, not when they left us. But back in November of 2009, we lost one of the last great horror movie icons: Jacinto Molina, better known as Paul Naschy. People who know me or regulars to this site know of my passion for Naschy’s work, so that loss really hit. He really is one of my horror heroes, and truly is an icon, one that I would put right up there with names like Karloff, Lugosi, Cushing, Price, and Lee. With close to 50 years worth of work in cinema, as a writer, actor, director, he created so many memorable characters, from monsters, villains, heroes, and so much more. Continue reading

Interview: Michael Wandmacher

Since we are huge fans of horror soundtracks, when the opportunity presented itself to get an interview with composer Wandmacher, we jumped at the chance. Wandmacher is the composer of one of our favorite scores, Cry Wolf. But he has also done a lot of work in the horror and sci-fi genre, as well as just about all other genres out there.

I’ve been a fan of movie music, so I figured I knew a little bit about it. But after this interview, I was amazed how little I really knew about the process. Plus, it doesn’t hurt when the composer is a big fan of the horror and sci-fi genres to begin with. That just made the interview even more interesting for everyone.

This interview was conducted on Dec. 13th, 2008.

Interview: Caroline Williams

Taking the very risky job of the lead role in the sequel to one of the most famous horror movies ever made, Caroline Williams put 110% into her role as Stretch, the radio DJ who has a run in with the Sawyer family. Williams is one of the sweetest and nicest people you could talk to. She goes way out of her way to make her fans know her appreciation for what she has been giving. While at the Flashback Weekend in June of 2008, we sat down with Caroline to talk about chainsaws, Leprechauns, and those wacky creators that helped bring this sequel to life.

Interview: Caroline Munro

munrointerviewbanner

Most people know Caroline Munro as either a Bond Girl or the work she did with Hammer Studios. But Caroline has worked all over the world, with many great and talented people. So while we briefly asked her about Hammer, we tried to venture more into the other countries where she worked. This interview was conducted at that Cinema Wasteland show, in April of 2007. We especially want to thank Caroline for taking the time to talk to us.

If you are a fan of Full Moon’s Pupptet Master series, then you hopefully should know that director David Schmoeller was the guy that started it all. But he also made a few other great genre pic, including getting to work with the infamous Klaus Kinski. This interview was conducted at the Cinema Wasteland show on March 31st, 2012.

Interivew: Andrew Prine

Andrew Prine has been a favorite of mine for a very long time. He is one of those actors that just seeing his name in the credits told me that I was going to enjoy this movie, even if was only the parts he appeared in! A regular in a lot of movies, both film and television, playing all sorts of characters, both good and bad. And no matter what, he was always holding our attention while on screen. He really is a genre icon.

We had the opportunity to sit down with Prine for a few minutes back in April of 2005, to get some of his thoughts on some of the movies that he worked on that we loved so much. Since we didn’t have a lot of time, I would just throw some titles out there and we’d go from there. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did talking to this legend.

Interview: Juliet Mills

While most people might know Juliet Mills from the many TV shows that she’s been on, us horror fans remember her from Ovidio G. Assonitis’ 1974 film Beyond the Door. I know that’s where I remember her, because as a 9-year old kid, this movie scared the crap out of me!

We met up with Mills at a small movie memorabilia show in the Chicagoland area, in November of 2005, where she was gracious enough to spend few minutes with us to talk about her memories about her work on Beyond the Door.

Interview: Doug Jones

dougjonesbanner

Doug Jones became known for his roles where his face was usually completely hidden underneath a ton of makeup. But his talent rose through all of that latex and rubber, creating some incredible characters over the years. We had a chance to talk to him at the HorrorHound Weekend show back in Aug. of 2008, in Jones’ hometown of Indianapolis, Indiana. Out of all the celebs that I’ve met over the years, Jones is one of a kind, and one that you’ll never forget once you meet him.

Interview: Jack Hill

hillinterviewbannerThis interview was conducted on June 27th, 1999, and was my very first interview for the Krypt. I was nervous as hell, but I have to say I couldn’t have picked a nicer guy for my first one. I’d been a fan of Hill’s work, especially Spider Baby, so this really was a thrill for me. This was done back right before the first DVD release of Spider Baby was coming out. Hope you enjoy it.
