I know it’s late on Monday, but I couldn’t go two weeks without a Mystery Photo. Just got back from Chicago from a screening of Frankenstein (1931) but knew I had to get this updated before I crash. So let’s get to it! Our last photo from two weeks ago was in tribute to the recent Cinema Wasteland convention, My Bloody Valentine (1981). I did find it interesting that a few people were sending in guesses with an Italian giallo, which really shows that the slasher film is the American cousin to them. YEAH! It’s finally October! That means we only have 31 days to really enjoy the Halloween Season before the biggest commercial holiday hits us! So let us horror fans make sure we do whatever we can to enjoy each and every one of these 31 days! I’m not sure how many updates I’ll have throughout the month, mainly due to all the conventions, marathons, and other events we have planned, but I’ll do my best.

But let us start it off with a new Mystery Photo, shall we? Last week’s photo was from Screamers (1979). Now if you said Island of the Fishmen, I would accept that, though technically this particular shot is from the footage that was added to the American release to the film, to help calm down the crowds at the drive-in who were pissed because the American ad campaign stated that you’d actually get to see a man turned inside out, which wasn’t in the original version. Oh the sordid tales of PR in low budget filmmaking. A little late today, but still got it posted. Busy weekend at the Drive-in, so it kind of drained me on Sunday. Getting too old to be staying up so late!

Just as I expected, we didn’t get too many correct responses from our last photo. Had a few good guesses, but the only one that came through was Hoby Abernathy. It might make you feel better by knowing that according to author Caelum Vatnsdal, he stated that this film “just might be the rarest Canadian horror film ever made.” The film is Corpse Eaters and came out in 1974. It did get a DVD release some time ago, but even those are pretty tough to find. It is available on YouTube though, so I would suggest checking it out. Don’t expect a lost classic, but it is cheesy and fun.

Welcome to another day closer to Halloween! Even though we have been getting ready long before now. But with the temps starting to drop, it really helps get in the mood, doesn’t it?

Is the summer over yet??? Really can’t wait for fall to get here, and not even for the obvious reason of the Halloween season. Just want this damn heat to end! Okay…done with the personal ranting…let’s get down to business. The photo from last week was from The Hanging Woman, aka Beyond the Living Dead, Dracula the Terror of the Living Dead, Return of the Zombies, The Orgy of the Dead, Zombie 3: Return of the Living Dead, and in Australia it was even called Bracula: The Terror of the Living Dead! So we did have a few that might have known the correct movie but had sent in a title that wasn’t one of the above. But we did have a few that did send in a correct one and those were: Hoby Abernathy, Troy Howarth, Michael Shields, and Tal Zimerman. Kudos, my friends.

Oh…did I mention that one of the co-stars of this film is Paul Naschy? If you know me…anytime I can mention this icon of horror, I’m going to!

Yes, I know. I didn’t have a new photo posted last Monday. Mainly due to the weekend at the Flashback convention as well as it being hot and muggy with no A/C, so I just didn’t have the motivation. But I was able to manage to work through the sweat and get one for this week. Just FYI…sweating arms and vinyl chair armrests…not a good match!

So last week’s pic was from the 1987 flick The Outing, also known as The Lamp. Not the greatest movie but a nice little return to the ’80s that wasn’t a slasher film. Another couple of days and we’ll be in the last stages of summer, and I personally can’t wait for it to be over.
