Hopefully everyone was responsible and still has all their fingers intact. We had so much rain and thunderstorms over the last few days, I would have been surprised if we didn’t hear any fireworks going on, but there are those that were determined to try and blow themselves up. But let’s get to the real reason we’re here. I have to say, after the last week of that brutal heat, I figured last week’s photo would show that it could always be hotter! That shot was of course from The Thing from Another World (1951) and it is one that amazes me to this day, each and every time I watch it. Were there any safety people on the set that day? I mean, we have a stuntman already completely engulfed in flames, so let’s have someone else throw a bucket of frameable liquid at him… while others NOT in fire suits are standing very close to him!!!! I am also very happy to see so many people recognize the film this shot was from. Still shows that these classics, some 75 years old, can still have an effect on today’s viewers. Welcome to our last photo of June. And it now seems the heat has finally hit us. Oof. Another reason to wait for October! But let’s get down to business. Last week’s photo was a tough one, and only got 2 correct answers sent in, but we did have some really good guesses. The film is from Tobe Hooper’s Toolbox Murders (2004). While not really a remake of the original 1978, it really does a great job with its own story. Worth seeing. Congrats to Tim Palace and William Wilson for correctly identifying it.

Almost done with the first month of summer. I know it’s not too popular to say, but I’m counting the days until fall. Sure, that means Halloween is closer, but really, as I’ve stated here many times before, I don’t like the heat. Granted, we’ve had it pretty good hear this last week, so I’m not complaining too much… But pretty soon Halloween decor will start appearing in stores, if it hasn’t already! Today is a day of remembrance of those that gave up their lives protecting our country and should never be forgotten. To honor our movies that show this, we thought we’d go that route as well. But first, let’s get to last week’s photo. It was from Doctor Blood’s Coffin (1961), which has been a favorite of mine since I finally got a chance to see it when I got a bootleg VHS years ago. I had seen photos of this film through the years in reference books, which made the movie look damn cool, not to mention always in black and white, so I had no idea it was actually in color! When I finally got to see it, it didn’t disappoint. Granted, with Hazel Court in there, I’m sure that helped a bit! Is it fall yet? I know some out there wait for the summer, but I am not one of those. Spending most of the day yesterday standing out in bright and sunny 85-degree weather is not my favorite thing to do. So yes, I am anxiously waiting for September / October to get here. But that’s not why we’re here, to hear my bitch about the heat, is it? Our photo from last week was from the Polish film Demon, a unique take on the legend of the dybbuk, from director Marcin Wrona. Sad to say he committed suicide while this film was in competition in the Gdynia Polish Film Festival. A great lost to the world of filmmaking.
