Mystery Photo 1-9

As I mentioned last week, the photo was I posting was going to be pretty tough, and it seems I was correct. But that didn’t stop Hoby Abernathy and Bob Hartman from figuring out what movie it was from! No easy task, that is for sure, so a major kudos to them! The film is Mexican and from 1953, called El Monstruo Resucitado 1953 aka The Revived Monster. Very unique, especially for that time, and some wonderful creepy images. Check it out when you can.

For our photo this week, we’re still sticking in the black and white era. That’s right, the dreaded quicksand! As a young lad, watching a lot of TV in the early ’70s, there was few things as terrifying as a pit of quicksand. So much so that I thought it was one thing that was going to be difficult to avoid in my adult life. But so far, so good. Give the photo a peek and see if you can recognize it before this poor woman goes under. Remember to email me your guess, at jon@kitleyskrypt.com. Good Luck!

Mystery Photo 1-2

Welcome to the new year and our first Mystery Photo for 2023! Hopefully this is the start of a great year for us all. But let’s get down to business. Our photo from last week was from the 2015 film A Christmas Horror Story, which honestly isn’t really a bad film, especially when you look at the poster art! It is at least a good time. Unfortunately, we didn’t get any correct answers sent in for it, but I’m sure it was because everyone was too busy during the holidays . . .

For our first photo of the new year, I decided to go a little deep and obscure. This is going to be a tough one, so be prepared. But take a look below and see if you can recognize where this shot is from. Just remember to send your guess to us at jon@kitleyskrypt.com. Good Luck!

Mystery Photo 12-26

Welcome to our last Mystery Photo for 2022. I’m hoping everyone survived their visit from Krampus. I know we did, and it was truly glorious! But let us not forget why we are here, to continue to put that grey matter to work on a little pictorial puzzle. While we did miss updating a new photo last week, we think this is a good one to end the year on. But before we get to that, last week’s photo was from the 1986 slasher film Evil Laugh, co-written by Steven Baio (yes, Scott’s brother) and Dominick Brascia, who directed as well. Brascia is most known to horror fans as playing Joey who meets a grisly end at the beginning of Friday the 13th: A New Beginning (1985). Evil Laugh was his directorial debut, which has been recently released on Blu-ray by Vinegar Syndrome. Not sure if I would recommend the film itself, but the print looks amazing. The only one to send in the correct answer was Hoby Abernathy, so congratulations to you, Hoby!

Okay, for our last pic of the year, we found one a little interesting. And nope, that it’s the Baby New Year either! Take a look and see what you think. Just remember to email us your guess, at jon@kitleyskrypt.com. Good Luck!

Mystery Photo 12-5-22

Welcome to our first Mystery Photo for December! That means we’ll be in 2023 before you know it! Better get those last-minute films in to make it on this year’s list! But let’s get down to business. Last week’s photo was from José Ramón Larraz 1973 film Scream…and Die, also known as The House that Vanished. Which, depending on which version you have, it could be cut quite a bit. I know the Blu-ray release that came out here in the states is definitely cut. The copy I have from an old VHS tape under the Scream…and Die title looks to be the full version, though the print is a little less than stellar. But still worth seeing if you’re a fan of Larraz’s early work. Definitely repeating the sleaze and dark tone that he had been doing so far in his career. Kudos to the following for sending in the correct answer: Kevin Hart, Gary McGuire, and Todd Warren. Well done!

Okay, throwing everyone a bone as an early holiday gift with this week’s photo. Should be pretty easy. Or is it? Maybe I’m trying to make throw you off by making you think it is easy, when in fact, it’s an obscure film only shown in one theater in outer Mongolia back in the ’40s, that reported made people go mad. Or not. Either way, take a look and see what you think. Just send me your guess, in an email, to jon@kitleyskrypt.com. As always, Good Luck!

Mystery Photo 11-28

For those that didn’t send in the correct photo must not have read my Turkey Day report because I unknowingly used the exact same photo of last week’s Mystery Photo, from Bill Rebane’s Rana: The Legend of Shadow Lake (1980). If that is where you got it and sent in your answer, I’ll still count it, so no worries! Yes, that is the gill-man named Rana from Rebane’s take on The Creature from the Black Lagoon, for what it’s worth. I happened to like the film, while admitting it’s not the greatest. But congrats to the following for sending in the correct answer: Hoby Abernathy, Aaron Christensen, Craig Clark, Kevin Hart, Bob Hartman, Tim Palace, Michael Pniewski. Well done!

This week’s photo might be a little tougher and a lot more obscure. Get your thinking caps on because this one will have you thinking. Just remember to send your guess to me in an email (that way I don’t lose your name!) to jon@kitleyskrypt.com. Good Luck!

Mystery Photo 11-21

In honor of the upcoming Turkey Day (and no, I’m not talking about Thanksgiving), we’d thought we’d go in that direction for this week’s photo. But before we get to that, let’s go over last week’s photo. We only got one correct answer sent in. In fact, we only got one answer sent in at all, so it must have stumped most everyone, except for Hoby Abernathy. It might have something to do with the fact that the film in question, The Banishing, just came out in 2020. Directed by Christopher Smith, who has always delivered the goods, and here is no different, other than part of the ending which is a real headscratcher. But still worth seeing.

Okay, on to this week’s photo. This is one that you’ll never read about in one of those “greatest movies of all time” books, unless you’re talking about Turkeys. So, give it a look and see if you can recognize what this shot is from. Just remember to send your guess to me in an email, to jon@kitleyskrypt.com. Good Luck!

Mystery Photo 11-14

Happy Monday! We’re halfway through the month and should start seeing the snow anytime now! Ain’t that grand? Yeah, so while I’m not a huge fan of the snow, I will take it over 90-degree weather with a blazing sun. Besides, when it gets really cold outside, that just means it’s perfect time to stay inside and watch movies or read books! Okay, down to business. Last week’s photo was from the strange little film The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane (1976). I know a lot of people did not like Martin Seen for a long time after his role here. And if that didn’t do it, his character in 1983’s The Dead Zone definitely would have! Kudos to the following for sending in the correct answer: Kevin Hart, Christopher Highland, and Rory Vargas Schutt. Well done!

Now to this week’s photo. Might look familiar, like you’d seen it years ago. Or maybe last week? Or not at all? That’s the fun part. Take a look and see what you can come up with. Just remember, send your answer to us in an email, to jon@kitleyskrypt.com. Good Luck!

Mystery Photo 11-7

Yes, Halloween is now in the past for this year, but we all know that Halloween is a state of mind, and not a season that comes around once a year. For us horror fans, it is all year round! Granted, now I might have a little more free time to get some other projects done as well as get a few more updates here as well! So, let’s get started!

I had a feeling the last photo was going to stump a few people since it is a pretty obscure title. So, if you didn’t get it, don’t feel too bad. It is from the film I Like Bats (1986), a Polish film recently released on Blu-ray from Severin Films. Definitely a curious one, that is for sure.

On to this week’s photo, which might be a little easier to some. Just take a peek and see what you can come up with. Just remember to send your guess to me in an email, to jon@kitleyskrypt.com. Good Luck!

Mystery Photo 10-31

Happy Halloween!!! I know it’s still a Monday, hence the new Mystery Photo, but hopefully either today, or over this last weekend, everyone was able to enjoy the holiday, get some fright flicks watched, as well as get to hang out with fellow horror fans to just have a good time!

I was pleasantly surprised at the number of correct answers sent in for our last photo. Without having the main star from the film, but just a shot of some tortured women, I didn’t think it was that easy. But I was wrong! The film title is actually Die Schlangengrube und das Pendel (1967), but is one of those that has been retitled more than a few times with names like The Blood Demon, Blood of the Virgins, Castle of the Walking Dead, but most notably as The Torture Chamber of Dr. Sadism, starring Christopher Lee. So big kudos to the following for sending in the correct answer: Hoby Abernathy, Todd Barwick, Dave Fronto, Bob Hartman, Troy Howarth, Gary McGuire, Bryan Senn, Michael Shields, Vincent Simonelli, Alan Tromp, Todd Warren, Nick Wilson.

Since the last one was a little too easy apparently, we’re going to go with one a little tougher. Well, maybe. But take a peek and see what pops into your head! Just remember to email me your answer (at jon@kitleyskrypt.com) otherwise I might forget! Good Luck!

Mystery Photo 10-24

I was very happy to see so many correct answers on our last photo, mainly because that is a favorite of mine! The funny thing is that for the longest time, I just remembered seeing the trailer and had to wait to finally find a bootleg copy of it to actually see it! And the trailer didn’t let me down! Of course, the film is The Car from 1977. I’m not a car-guy, but one day I’d like to own one like that. Kudos to the following for sending in the correct answer: Hoby Abernathy, Aaron Christensen, Dahlia Daniels, Bob Hartman, Rick Hayden, Ken Johnson, John Meredith, Jeff Owens, James Schmeichel, and Michael Shields. Well done!

Now on to this week’s photo, which might be a little trickier, since there are probably more than a few films with shots like this in it! So, let’s see how well you know them! Just remember to send your guess to me by email, at jon@kitleyskrypt.com. Good Luck!
