Mystery Photo 2-6

Welcome to the first photo of February. Another month in the books. For our last week’s photo, we decided to deep dive down into the world of really low budget films and picked a favorite shot from Bret McCormick’s Abomination from 1986. Can’t go wrong with a whole bunch of tumor monsters that are taking residence inside the kitchen cabinets! Kudos to the following for sending in the correct answer: Hoby Abernathy, Bob Hartman, Mike Shields, & William Wilson. Well done!

This week’s photo is another fun one. Well . . . Anyway, take a look and see what you think. Just remember to send your guess to me in an email, to jon@kitleyskrypt.com. Good Luck!

Mystery Photo 1-30

Welcome to our last photo of the month. That’s right, we’ve almost made it through the first month of 2023 and we’re still here. Hopefully that is a good sign. Our photo from last week was from the one and only Grizzly (1976), one of the first and most successful “inspired” films that came from the blockbuster Jaws (1975). Kudos to the following for sending in the correct answers: Hoby Abernathy, Scott Bradley, Dada Debaser, Bryan Senn, and Michael Shields. Well done!

For this week’s photo, we’re going a little more obscure. Fans of the old VHS days might know this one. But give it a look and see what you can come up with. If you’ve seen it before, you’ll most likely remember it because it is quite different. Just remember to send your guess to me in an email, to jon@kitleyskrypt.com. Good Luck!

Mystery Photo 1-23

Last week’s photo was from the Oscar winning . . . okay, not exactly. But had director Ray Dennis Steckler had a real budget, you never know what he might have accomplished. The pic was from his 1964 film The Thrill Killers, which I must say, if you haven’t seen it, is actually a pretty decent film. Kudos to the following for sending in the correct answer: Scott Bradley, Michael Shields, and William Wilson. Well done!

Now since we’ve somehow managed to use black and white films for every pictorial puzzle this month, I figured it was about time we went color. So, take a look at this week’s photo and see if you can recognize where this one is from. Just remember to send your guess to me in an email to jon@kitleyskrypt.com. Good Luck!

Mystery Photo 1-16

You people surprised me with last week’s photo, and it made me proud! I thought if I posted a shot from the best tree monster movie ever (okay that might be debatable…), and didn’t include the actual monster, there’s no way anybody would get this. So, I posted a shot of a woman sinking to her death in a pit of quicksand from the 1957 film From Hell It Came. And much to my surprise, I was getting messages right away with the right answer. Shows what I know! Kudos out to the following for sending in the correct answer: Hoby Abernathy, Kevin Hart, Bob Hartman, Ken Johnson, Doug Lamoreux, Charles Miller, Lee Nattrass, Bryan Senn, and Alan Tromp. You guys make me proud to be amongst you!

Okay, let’s see if we can continue that trend with this week’s photo, shall we? Take a look below and see what you think. Just remember to email me your guess, to jon@kitleyskrypt.com. Good Luck!

Mystery Photo 1-9

As I mentioned last week, the photo was I posting was going to be pretty tough, and it seems I was correct. But that didn’t stop Hoby Abernathy and Bob Hartman from figuring out what movie it was from! No easy task, that is for sure, so a major kudos to them! The film is Mexican and from 1953, called El Monstruo Resucitado 1953 aka The Revived Monster. Very unique, especially for that time, and some wonderful creepy images. Check it out when you can.

For our photo this week, we’re still sticking in the black and white era. That’s right, the dreaded quicksand! As a young lad, watching a lot of TV in the early ’70s, there was few things as terrifying as a pit of quicksand. So much so that I thought it was one thing that was going to be difficult to avoid in my adult life. But so far, so good. Give the photo a peek and see if you can recognize it before this poor woman goes under. Remember to email me your guess, at jon@kitleyskrypt.com. Good Luck!

Mystery Photo 1-2

Welcome to the new year and our first Mystery Photo for 2023! Hopefully this is the start of a great year for us all. But let’s get down to business. Our photo from last week was from the 2015 film A Christmas Horror Story, which honestly isn’t really a bad film, especially when you look at the poster art! It is at least a good time. Unfortunately, we didn’t get any correct answers sent in for it, but I’m sure it was because everyone was too busy during the holidays . . .

For our first photo of the new year, I decided to go a little deep and obscure. This is going to be a tough one, so be prepared. But take a look below and see if you can recognize where this shot is from. Just remember to send your guess to us at jon@kitleyskrypt.com. Good Luck!

Mystery Photo 12-26

Welcome to our last Mystery Photo for 2022. I’m hoping everyone survived their visit from Krampus. I know we did, and it was truly glorious! But let us not forget why we are here, to continue to put that grey matter to work on a little pictorial puzzle. While we did miss updating a new photo last week, we think this is a good one to end the year on. But before we get to that, last week’s photo was from the 1986 slasher film Evil Laugh, co-written by Steven Baio (yes, Scott’s brother) and Dominick Brascia, who directed as well. Brascia is most known to horror fans as playing Joey who meets a grisly end at the beginning of Friday the 13th: A New Beginning (1985). Evil Laugh was his directorial debut, which has been recently released on Blu-ray by Vinegar Syndrome. Not sure if I would recommend the film itself, but the print looks amazing. The only one to send in the correct answer was Hoby Abernathy, so congratulations to you, Hoby!

Okay, for our last pic of the year, we found one a little interesting. And nope, that it’s the Baby New Year either! Take a look and see what you think. Just remember to email us your guess, at jon@kitleyskrypt.com. Good Luck!

Mystery Photo 12-5-22

Welcome to our first Mystery Photo for December! That means we’ll be in 2023 before you know it! Better get those last-minute films in to make it on this year’s list! But let’s get down to business. Last week’s photo was from José Ramón Larraz 1973 film Scream…and Die, also known as The House that Vanished. Which, depending on which version you have, it could be cut quite a bit. I know the Blu-ray release that came out here in the states is definitely cut. The copy I have from an old VHS tape under the Scream…and Die title looks to be the full version, though the print is a little less than stellar. But still worth seeing if you’re a fan of Larraz’s early work. Definitely repeating the sleaze and dark tone that he had been doing so far in his career. Kudos to the following for sending in the correct answer: Kevin Hart, Gary McGuire, and Todd Warren. Well done!

Okay, throwing everyone a bone as an early holiday gift with this week’s photo. Should be pretty easy. Or is it? Maybe I’m trying to make throw you off by making you think it is easy, when in fact, it’s an obscure film only shown in one theater in outer Mongolia back in the ’40s, that reported made people go mad. Or not. Either way, take a look and see what you think. Just send me your guess, in an email, to jon@kitleyskrypt.com. As always, Good Luck!

Mystery Photo 11-28

For those that didn’t send in the correct photo must not have read my Turkey Day report because I unknowingly used the exact same photo of last week’s Mystery Photo, from Bill Rebane’s Rana: The Legend of Shadow Lake (1980). If that is where you got it and sent in your answer, I’ll still count it, so no worries! Yes, that is the gill-man named Rana from Rebane’s take on The Creature from the Black Lagoon, for what it’s worth. I happened to like the film, while admitting it’s not the greatest. But congrats to the following for sending in the correct answer: Hoby Abernathy, Aaron Christensen, Craig Clark, Kevin Hart, Bob Hartman, Tim Palace, Michael Pniewski. Well done!

This week’s photo might be a little tougher and a lot more obscure. Get your thinking caps on because this one will have you thinking. Just remember to send your guess to me in an email (that way I don’t lose your name!) to jon@kitleyskrypt.com. Good Luck!

Mystery Photo 11-21

In honor of the upcoming Turkey Day (and no, I’m not talking about Thanksgiving), we’d thought we’d go in that direction for this week’s photo. But before we get to that, let’s go over last week’s photo. We only got one correct answer sent in. In fact, we only got one answer sent in at all, so it must have stumped most everyone, except for Hoby Abernathy. It might have something to do with the fact that the film in question, The Banishing, just came out in 2020. Directed by Christopher Smith, who has always delivered the goods, and here is no different, other than part of the ending which is a real headscratcher. But still worth seeing.

Okay, on to this week’s photo. This is one that you’ll never read about in one of those “greatest movies of all time” books, unless you’re talking about Turkeys. So, give it a look and see if you can recognize what this shot is from. Just remember to send your guess to me in an email, to jon@kitleyskrypt.com. Good Luck!
