Well, they finally announced the complete lineup for the fall Super Monster-Rama and I am doing all I can to try and figure out a way to make it to this one. I mean, how can any self-respecting Paul Naschy fan skip out on seeing not one, not two, but THREE Naschy flicks on the big screen?!?!? Plus, it is a Spanish horror theme for the whole weekend. If a triple dose of Naschy wasn’t enough, then about adding in Blind Dead film? Or Jorge Grau’s amazing zombie flick, Living Dead at the Manchester Morgue! Then you throw in some rare & obscure titles like Graveyard of Horrors and The Dracula Saga, that just makes the cake.
So while I’m still trying to figure out a way, you should start making your plans to head out to this event. It takes place on Friday, Sept. 20th and Saturday, Sept. 21st, at the Riverside Drive-in in Vandergrift, PA.
While they haven’t announced the full lineup just yet, they have given us the 4 titles that will be playing Friday night. And if you’re a fan of Spanish horror, then you might want to start making plans.
On Friday, September 20th, they will be screening:
Frankenstein’s Bloody Terror (1968)
Dracula Great Love (1973)
The Vampires Night Orgy (1973)
The Dracula Saga (1973)
Not only will you get to see TWO Paul Naschy films, including the one that really started his career, you’ll get to see two other entertaining Spanish horror films as well!
This is all taking place at the Riverside Drive-In in Vandergrift, PA, on September 20th & 21st. We’ll post more information when it comes out, but you can also follow the Facebook page HERE.
It’s official! After many months of planning, I can finally announce this. On Saturday, July 27th, at the Music Box Theatre in Chicago, we will be having the official book launch for my new book Discover the Horror! To help celebrate this event, we will be hosting a screening one of the most epic of giant monster movies from the ’50s before hand… The Giant Claw!!! One of the greatest Turkeys ever to grace the screens. Tickets for the screening are only $11 and you can purchase them, as well as finding out about the book launch event, by clicking HERE.
The screening starts at 4:45pm, with a small Q&A with me after the film. Then I’ll be in the lounge with copies of my book. The normal retail price for the book is $20, but at this event, we’ll have them on sale at only $15. So make your plans to head into the city in about 3 weeks to see a highly entertaining, yet very cheesy film, and pick up your copy of Discover the Horror!
Welcome to July! Plenty of sun and high temperatures… which is why I’ll be staying indoors as much as possible until around September/October. Sorry for the delay but the day is not over, so let us get to the photo. Do you like your Mexican monster movies with a little sci-fi action? How about some musical numbers? Or a western setting that is a comedy? Well when you mix those all together, you have our movie from last week, La nave de los monstrous (The Ship of Monsters, 1960). What has seemed like forever, the Skyline Drive-In in Shelbyville, IN has finally announced their lineup (well… most of it) for this year’s Super Monster Movie Fest. Earlier, they had mentioned the theme was going to be Man Made Monsters, which lead to a lot of guessing and speculation. Cinepocalypse, the genre film festival taking place at Chicago’s own Music Box Theater has unleashed it’s lineup of films and special guests for this year’s event. Starting on Thursday, June 13th, and running thru June 20th, the festival will have 8 days of features, shorts, events and guests, including 8 world premieres.
Some of the highlights right off the bat would be the world premiere of Verotika, Glenn Danzig’s directorial debut, which is opening the festival, with Danzig in attendance! Director Joel Schumacher will also be in attendance for screenings of Falling Down (1993) and Flatliners (1990), and will be there for Q&As after the screenings. Actor Michael Ironside will be there to receive Cinepocalypse’s annual achievement award, who has contributed to so many genre pics over the years. He will accept this award after a 70mm screening of Total Recall (1990).

Last year we missed this event, which really bummed me out, especially since they were doing Jaws and water terrors theme. But this year, we definitely am going to make it. Why you ask? Even when they haven’t announced any of the titles? Well first of all… it’s a 2 full-filled evenings at the Drive-in? What could better than that? Oh yeah, maybe with the theme being: Man Created Monster. Hmmm… do you think there might be a Frankenstein film in there somewhere? One can only hope.
I am very interested to see what kind of titles they are going to spring on us, but we’ll announced them here once they do list them. I know we will be there once again to enjoy the films, eat a corn dog or two, and have a great time. Why not come out and join us.
This event takes place on Aug. 23rd & 24th, at the Skyline Drive-in, located in Shelbyville, Indiana, it’s just about 20-30 minutes south of Indianapolis. Start making your plans now to attend. You won’t be disappointed.
Readers of the Krypt know of my love for the drive-in theaters and also my continued hope to get more people to go out and support the few that are still around. With the recent news that one of our local drive-ins, The Cascade in West Chicago, IL, will not be opening back up this year due to the property owners didn’t want them to open again, putting the land up for sale, has really bummed me out. Then I hear about this new documentary coming out called At the Drive-In, and it gives me hope.
This documentary about one The Mahoning Drive-In, located in Lehighton, PA, which has been running since 1949. In 2014, when the movie studios went completely digital, it forced theaters to even spend the $50,000 on a digital projector, or not play new titles. The Mahoning couldn’t afford to buy a new projector and have decided to keep playing older titles that are still available on 35mm. This documentary is about that time when they weren’t sure what they were going to do. Check out the trailer below.
