Classic Kaiju at the Music Box in Chicago

While I can’t say I’m that excited about the new Godzilla vs Kong movie (which opens at the Music Box in Chicago on March 31st), I will admit that I am more than excited over the screenings the Music Box Theatre are having ahead of the release of the big battle of the monster film. Over the weekend of March 19th to the 21st, they will be screening 4 different classic Kaiju films, that feature all your favorites, from Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan, and even Ghidorah! No CGI monsters here, but good old fashion men-in-suits giving their all to bring these creatures to life on screen. Here is what is playing and when: Continue reading

Horrors at the Skyline Drive-in!

In the last few days, the Skyline Drive-In in Shelbyville, IN, announced several weekends of horror lineups coming up in October. I’m not sure how many of them I’ll make, but I know I’ll be there for the last one I have listed! For all the information head over to their Facebook page HERE.

Below is the events they have listed and what will be screening. Start making your plans!

Scariest Movies of All Time Part 1
Oct. 2nd & 3rd
Poltergeist (1982)

Michael Myers Marathon at the Midway!

It seems that the Midway Drive-In is going over-the-top this Halloween season with another marathon announcement. On Saturday, October 10th, they will be screening the first 4 Halloween movies that feature Michael Myers. Yes, I know, that means no Halloween 3, but deal with it. This marathon is all about Michael Myers. From the original classic from John Carpenter and it’s immediate follow-up, to the 2nd storyline with the Shape seeking out his niece, Jamie.

For more information, head over to the Midway’s website HERE. They don’t have much info on there just yet, but keep checking back for updates

Classic Universal Horrors at the Drive-Ins!!!

Our favorite Drive-In, The Midway Drive-In in Dixon, IL, announced yesterday that on Saturday, October3rd, they will be screening THREE Universal Classic horror films on their huge 90-foot screen! If you’ve never seen one of these classic titles on a big screen like this, it is not to be missed!

They will be screening: The Bride of Frankenstein (1935) with Boris Karloff returning as the monster looking for a mate, The Wolf Man (1941), with Lon Chaney Jr., and finally Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948). Now some may say this isn’t really one of the Universal Horrors because of the comedy duo, but you’d be wrong. Not only does this feature Lugosi in really the only other time he played Count Dracula since the original 1931 film, but it also has Lon Chaney Jr. returning as the cursed Larry Talbot, not to mention being a very well made, and creepy film. And is pretty damn funny too.   Continue reading

Scary Movie Mondays at the Starlite Drive-In!

It seems more and more of these drive-ins are holding events that keep tempting me to take more road trips! Once I hit the lotto, that is exactly what I’ll be doing, in between hitting on these old book stores!

Anyway, starting next Monday, the Starlite Drive-In, located in Wichita, KS, they will be having double and triple features  each week through most of October, with some really choice titles. If there is anyway I could get down there to see Godzilla vs Megalon on the big screen, I would definitely be there. You can see all the features below on the ad, or you can head over to their Facebook Events page HERE. If you’re in the area and can make it, I will be very envious of you!

Weekend of Terror 5 at the Mahoning Drive-In

The Mahoning Drive-In continues to program some amazing lineups at their theater. Unfortunately for me, it is located on the far east side of Pennsylvania, which would be about a 11+ hour drive (one way) for me to attend. Otherwise, I would definitely be there for this. But for those of you that are closer, here’s the amazing lineup they have announced:

Friday, Sept. 25th:
Deep Red (1975)
The Psychic (1977)
Torso (1973)

Saturday, Sept. 26th:
House on the Edge of the Park (1980)
New York Ripper (1982)
Buio Omega (1979)

Sunday, Sept. 27th:
Beyond the Door (1974)
Beyond the Door II (1977)

If only I had hit the lotto and could just spend my days traveling from drive-in to drive-in….

Discover the Horror….at the Drive-In!!!

With all the conventions cancelling for the year (and with good reason), it seems the only places we’re going to be hitting are the drive-ins! We’re looking into a few more events, but right now, we have 2 different Drive-In events that we’re going to be at.

The first one is next weekend, at the Skyline Drive-In in Shelbyville, IN, for their annual Super Monster Movie Fest! Taking place on Friday the 28th and Saturday the 29th, with this year’s theme being BUGS!!! Here’s the schedule of what is screening and the other events:

Not only will we be there for this amazing event, but we will be selling copies of my book, Discover the Horror, which I will gladly sign for FREE! I’ll be somewhere where the vendors will be set up. Not sure the when and where exactly, but I’ll be there all weekend, so we should be pretty easy to find, unless I’m off getting a corndog!

For all the latest information, head over to the Skyline’s Facebook Events page HERE.

Then next month, on September 19th, we will be at the Midway Drive-in in Sterling, IL for their annual From Dusk Till Dawn Horrorfest. They have only announced two of the four features playing, but so far it looks like a great night of fun.

They will be screening a 4K restoration of George Romero’s original Night of the Living Dead (1968). If you’ve never had the chance to see this on the big screen, then you are truly missing out on an amazing experience. Also on hand for a book signing will be author Daniel Kraus who will be signing copies of his book The Living Dead, which is based on the story that George Romero started on before his death.

The second feature they have announced is John Carpenter’s The Fog (1980), another personal favorite of mine!

UPDATE! They have announced the other two features: David Cronenberg’s Rabid (1977) and Humanoids from the Deep (1980)! Really going to make sure I can stay up for all four of these great features!

There will be vendors there, including Kitley’s Krypt and Horror Slave, along with Jill & Gregg from Lix, featuring so many amazing shirts and hoodies, and so much more! For all the latest information about this event, just click HERE for the Midway’s website or HERE for their Facebook Events page.

So all that money you’ve been saving up for conventions, bring on out to the drive-ins! We hope to see you there!
