How would you like to be able to see 8 classic Italian giallo films over two nights on the big screen? Chattanooga Film Fest Report

This was my first time attending a real film festival that I was able to make it for more than a couple of movies, even though it was still a virtual fest with all the screenings online. Better than nothing these days, right? Big thanks to my friend Neil Calderone for putting this on my radar because over six days, I’ve watched nine features and eight short films and found no disappointments in any of them. Sure, there were some I enjoyed more than others, but they were still all very entertaining and I’m glad I got to see them.

Chattanooga Film Festival

Starting next Thursday the 24th, and running through Tuesday the 29th is the Chattanooga Film Festival, which will be held online once again due to the pandemic. But that shouldn’t stop you from having the chance to see some interesting and intriguing films! Just browsing through the film listing, it looks like quite a few titles that I know I will be catching, including a Conversation with Gary Sherman, Chicago’s own director who gave us films like Death Line (aka Raw Meat) and Dead & Buried, as well as the documentary Woodlands Dark and Days Bewitched: A History of Folk Horror by Kier-La Janisse.

Suspiria at the Music Box!!!

This is a little short notice, but it was recently announced that Dario Argento’s immortal Suspiria (1977) will be screening at Chicago’s Music Box Theatre this weekend and next week. If you haven’t seen this film in the theater, then you haven’t really seen it. Seriously. This will be screened from a DCP format, which I’m guessing is the print from the Synapse recent Blu-Ray, so it is simply amazing.

Mystery Photo 5-17

I can still remember opening up the pages of Fangoria and seeing photos from this new gore-filled horror/comedy from some wacko from New Zealand. Who would have known then he would go on to win an Oscar and create some of the finest moments in cinematic history, such as with Meet the Feebles (1989) and some series about a ring or something. Of course, I’m talking about Peter Jackson, and our photo is from his directorial feature debut, Bad Taste (1987), that took over 5 years of weekend shootings to finally get it finished. But even bad then, you could see the talent within that mad genius. Kudos to the following for sending in the correct answer: Hoby Abernathy, Todd Barwick, Aaron Christensen, Craig Clark, and Dustin Moravick. Well done!

This week’s photo is another classic from a director that, while never won any Oscars, definitely made some big features. Take a look below and see what you can come up with. Just send us an email (to jon@kitleyskrypt.com) with your guess. Good Luck!

April Fulci!

Webster University Film Series is putting the spotlight on one of our favorite directors, Lucio Fulci, and one that I honestly think is still underrated outside of the horror fans. And now is your chance to learn why!

Every Thursday in April one of Fulci films will host a live discussion about the film. The idea is to watch the film at some point before the event, then join them to hear a different speaker each week discuss the specific title. The selections for April Fulcis are: Continue reading

If you ever needed a reason to drive out of state, heading south of Indianapolis, IN to the little town of Shelbyville to go to the Skyline Drive-In, now you have the best excuse. Just tell them “the Devil made me do it!!!”

That is this year’s theme for the Super Monster Movie Fest, taking place on August 27th and 28th. They haven’t announced any titles yet, but we are excited to see the range of devilish entertainment they come up with. No matter what, I know we’ll be there participating in all the fun.
