Plus the fact that these are all being screened from 35mm prints! Now is your chance to see some of these essential titles from our horror history but on the big screen like they were meant to be seen! Here’s the schedule for this series:

What a Time to be Alive!

antropophagus

Twenty years ago, when us deviant fans of European horror films that were near impossible to find over here in the states, you were lucky as hell when you were able to find a 5th generation copy of Joe D’Amato’s notorious 1980 film Anthropophagous, and even more so if it had the famous fetus eating scene intact. Sounds demented, I know. But when you’re trying to find the a version that was completely uncut, if that scene was in there, you knew you had a big score on your hands.

You Won’t Believe Your Updated and Revised Eyes!

youwontbelieveyoureyes RevisedOne of my favorite books that I read in 2016, which still remains as a favorite, is Mark Thomas McGee’s You Won’t Believe Your Eyes!, published by BearManor Media. It’s a recollection from a young Monster Kid as he went to see those amazing films of the ’50s. It is a very funny and entertaining read, which I reviewed on my site back in 2016, where you can still find the review if you search for it.

But now, there is an all new “Revised and Updated Monster Kids Edition, that has just been released by BearManor, with almost a 100 pages of more fun recollections. McGee’s writing is full of humor and admiration for this pictures, even if they might not be the greatest of movies. I found a lot of great titles from that era that I had missed out on, but thanks to McGee and this book, I quickly fixed that error.

If you’re a fan of that era of sci-fi and horror films, then I really think you’ll enjoy this one. Plus, with the holidays right around the corner, it would make a great gift. It is available in both hardcover ($35.95) and softcover ($25.95) editions. For more information, head over to BearManor Media’s site HERE

Mystery Photo 8-13

Yes, I know. I didn’t have a new photo posted last Monday. Mainly due to the weekend at the Flashback convention as well as it being hot and muggy with no A/C, so I just didn’t have the motivation. But I was able to manage to work through the sweat and get one for this week. Just FYI…sweating arms and vinyl chair armrests…not a good match!

So last week’s pic was from the 1987 flick The Outing, also known as The Lamp. Not the greatest movie but a nice little return to the ’80s that wasn’t a slasher film. Kudos to the following for sending in the correct answer: Hoby Abernathy, Adam Knabe, Gary Miller, William Wilson. Well done, people! Well done, indeed.

Now on to this week’s photo. Take a peek and see what you can come up with. But as always, PLEASE remember not to post your answers here so that others can have a guess. Instead, just send us an email (to jon@kitleyskrypt.com) with your guess. Good Luck!

The DePaul Humanities Center continues their The Horror of Humanities series with a screening of Robert Eggers 2015 film The VVitch. It will take place on Monday, Oct. 29th, taking place at the DePaul Student Center, 120, 2250 N. Sheffield Ave., Chicago.

Here’s the schedule:

6:00pm – 6:30pm – Avant-garde Haunted House Interactive Halloween Exhibit

6:30pm – Screening of The VVitch (2015)

8:00pm – Conversation with the director, Robert Eggers

I’ve been wanting to go out to these every year, but always seem to miss it. But this year, with this film and this guest, I think I’m going to have to make it.

Still Alive…But a Little Warm

Incredible-Melting-Man1I know it’s been a little while since our last update but we are trying to recover from the last few days at the Flashback Weekend convention. What’s making it harder is the fact that our A/C is on the fritz (thanks Four Seasons!). This is just sucking any motivation I have right out of me. We plan on getting a whole new system, but are trying to wait it out until next year. But then if I have to go through any more 90 degree days, not sure I’ll make it. So whatever deity I need to pray to or make a sacrifice to, to get the temps down to the ’60s any sooner, just let me know!

But Flashback was a blast as always. Kudos to Mike, Mia, and the rest of the Flashback gang as usual, for putting on a great show. There were tons of people wandering the dealer room all three days, which is always a good sign. When you see a pretty decent size line waiting to get in on a Sunday, that really says a lot about the show. We didn’t get to take as many photos as we’d hoped, missing out on the Jason panel, which was the one I wanted to see the most. I really hope during the Q&A, someone asked them about their stunt work instead of just the same old questions of wearing the famous hockey mask. Nothing against those movies, but these guys have decades and decades in the stunt business and probably have stories that would make your bones ache! If you see one of these guys, or any number of these stunt men that have made a name playing a character like Jason, ask them out their stunt career and some of their work. I bet you’ll hear some real good stories.

Teenage Slasher Movie Book

Back in 2012, J.A. Kerswell published The Slasher Movie Book, which was a beautifully laid out volume covering the slasher film genre. With tons of color photos and poster art, it did a great job covering the popular sub-genre.

But now Kerswell has updated and revised this book, now releasing it under the title The Teenage Slasher Movie Book. I’m a little confused on the title, but it is 16 pages longer than the original volume. But unless you have a copy of the first edition already, this new one is the way to go, since the first release goes for $100 to $200!?!?! Yeah, not sure what that is about. But at least you won’t have to worry about that and you can order a copy of the updated version when it comes out this October.

Flashback Weekend Just Days Away!

flashback logo

Being that my “real” job has been more than a bit stressful these last few weeks, I’m even more thrilled to have this year’s Flashback Weekend coming up in just a few days. Nothing more enjoyable than escaping from the real world and getting to hang out with a bunch of like-minded horror fans. And Flashback Weekend is just the place to do it!

Mystery Photo 7-30

Another couple of days and we’ll be in the last stages of summer, and I personally can’t wait for it to be over. Sure, it might have something to do with our AC being on the fritz, but can’t wait for these summer temps to be done with, at least for a while. In the meantime, let’s get to last week’s photo. It was from the strange German film Die Nackte und der Satan (1959), or better known here in the states as simply The Head. This is a strange little film, with a lot of very suggestive scenes, not to mention one crazy-ass plot! But damn fun to watch! Kudos to the following for sending in the correct answer: Hoby Abernathy, Troy Howarth, Charles Miller, Michael Shields, Alan Tromp, and Barry Watts. Well done!

Now on to this week’s photo. Maybe not as obscure as our last one, but we’ll see how easy it is to guess. Just remember…PLEASE do not post your answers here, so others can have a guess at it. Instead, just send your guess to us in an email, to jon@kitleyskrypt.com. Good Luck!
