Larrez. Rollin. Franco. Do those names mean anything to you? And if so, what images come to mind? For those that are aware of those names and their work, you might have an image of a vampire or two floating through your mind. In this episode, we take a look at 3 unique vampire films that are quite different than what most would consider a traditional genre entry, and each from a different director. We cover Jose Larrez’s Vampyres (1974), Jean Rollin’s Fascination (1979), and Jess Franco’s Vampyros Lesbos (1971).

Jon, Just finished listening to the latest Podcast and this was one I could really sink my teeth into (bad, overused pun intended). I had watched Fascination and Vampyros Lesbos many years ago on bad videotape transfers and am now interested in revisiting these films again. However, I own the Blue Underground DVD release of Vampyres, and like yourself, consider it an atmospheric little gem of 1970’s horror. Over the years I have become a big fan of Jose Larraz films (mostly those of the 1970’s): Symptoms, Deviation, Black Candles. These films have a tendency to get under your skin and just seem to get better which each viewing. As always, looking forward to the next Podcast!!

Thanks Todd! Let us know what you think when you revisit Fascination and Vampyros Lesbos! I do think some of Larraz stuff is quite good, especially Symptoms and Black Candles, both for different reasons!
