I guess there is something to be said about a film that we hear a lot about before the film, but then we don’t too hear much after it comes out. Sometimes we don’t even realize that it was even released. This film is a perfect example of this, at least for me. The only reason I found out it came out was that it showed up at Redbox when I was scrolling through the titles. Should have given me a clue right there. But I rented it anyway.

Interview: Charles B. Griffith

griffithbanner

Hopefully everyone out there already knows who Charles B. Griffith is. If you’ve seen any of the early works of Roger Corman, then at least you’ve seen some of his work. But if not, then this is a perfect opportunity to learn about this very talented and very underrated man. This interview was conducted at the Cinema Wasteland Movie Memorabilia show on April 1st, 2007. He passed away later that September. He will be missed.

Kitley’s Krypt: How did you meet up with Roger Corman?

Gift of Knowledge…Part 2

A couple of weeks ago, I posted a little piece on some book recommendations that would make amazing gifts for the holidays, or any time really. But I have two more that would not only just blow away the person you are giving them to, but also are available once again the rare hardcover editions. Sure, these are not the first printings, but unless you want to pay two or three times the cost just to say you had one of the first, then these might be a little more affordable.

Both of these books come from the brilliant mind of Stephen Thrower and are published by FAB Press, who have always created such amazing pieces of readable art. The first one Thrower’s book on Lucio Fulci, entitled Beyond Terror: The Films of Lucio Fulci. This book is just amazing. Filled with incredible photos, tons of detail about the man and his films, it really is a must have for fans of Fulci and Italian horror. In the past, even a softcover edition of this book would go for $100. But now you can get a hardcover version for only $69.95 on Amazon. Click HERE.

Mystery Photo 12-14

Welcome to Monday, kiddies! Hopefully the worst part of today is over and you have time to relax in front of the TV watching a classic horror flick. Damn…I just might have to do that now!

Anyway, our photo from last week was of the lovely Adrienne Corri in the 1974 film Madhouse, which also happened to star Vincent Price, Peter Cushing, and Robert Quarry.  Not a great film, but pretty fun to watch. Kudos goes out to the following for sending in the correct answer: Cate Cameron, Doug Lamoreux, Michael Shields, and Kristin Wicks. Well done!

So here is this week’s little photo for your ocular evaluation. Give it a peek and see what you think! As always, please don’t post your answer here, but send me an email at jon@kitleyskrypt.com. Good luck.

Turkey Day 2015

Welcome to our 13th Turkey Day Marathon, where a growing number of crazy cinephiles gather together to feast on what we like to call turkeys. These are the ones that while they tried hard to make a good film, just missed the mark. Of course, that doesn’t mean we’re not going to be entertained by them. We were…and then some.

Grindhouse Releasing Pieces Bluray

piecesbluray

We all know the incredible job Grindhouse Releasing has done with their releases, putting more time and care into some of these cult movies that most people wouldn’t give two seconds to. And they are still add it, with this Blu-ray release of Juan Piquer Simón’s uber slasher flick Pieces. But this isn’t just the movie, but a 3-disc set with a plethora of extras. For those of you who picked up their special 2-dsic DVD set years ago, you will still want to add this edition to your collection. If you missed out on that one, now is your chance to redeem yourself!
