Mystery Photo 2-8

Monday, Monday…while most don’t look forward to the start of the week, at least you have a brand new Mystery Photo to look at, right? So there’s at least one positive thing! But before we get to this week’s photo, let’s cover our last one. It is from the mastermind filmmaker of Jess Franco, in his 1964 film Dr. Orloff’s Monster, also known as The Mistresses of Dr. Jekyll, which is another one of Franco’s early black and white films that is pretty damn good. If you haven’t seen it, check it out. Kudos out to the following for sending in the correct answer: Hoby Abernathy, Mike Shields, and David H. Smith. Well done!

Okay, lets get to our latest little mystery pic. An oldie but a goodie…and even in color, no less! So take a glance at these two youngsters and see if you can recognize the movie they are from. Good luck!

Frank Finlay – Rest in Peace

Frank Finlay-RIPWe meant to post this earlier this week but time just got away from us. But we hope to make up for it now. While Frank Finlay might have been known for his stage work, as well as plenty of TV work for the BBC, he did appear in enough horror titles that is worth noting.

He first got my attention for his portrayal of Van Helsing in the BBC’s 1977 adaptation of Count Dracula, starring Louis Jourdan as his rival. But even before that, he had appeared in such titles like The Deadly Bees (1966), Twisted Nerve (1968), and Neither the Sea Nor the Sand (1972). But it was his role in Tobe Hooper’s Lifeforce that most American fans would recognize him from. While it has it’s issues, it is a much better film that Finlay’s last horror film, in Juan Piquer Simón’s Cthulhu Mansion (1992)!

Mystery Photo 2-1

Welcome to February! And since it is Monday, that means a new Mystery Photo. But before we get to the new one, let’s go over last week’s. It actually was an easier title, but I used a shot that I thought wouldn’t be recognized too easily. And it looks like I was right. The shot is from the opening of John Hough’s The Legend of Hell House, one of my favorite haunted house movies out there! Only got one correct answer sent in and that was from Hoby Abernathy. Pretty tough to sneak one by him, apparently! But major kudos to you none the less!

Okay…this week’s photo is a nice little close up of a man who might just have a little bit of a skin problem. Take a peek and see if you recogninze this guy and the movie he is from. Good luck!

Fairness in Hollywood?

Oscars1With all the recent talk about Hollywood and the Oscars not being fair to minorities, I’d like to get on my soapbox for a minute and point out another group of people that have been excluded for the most part since cinema began. And they are actors and actresses that have appeared in horror films. No matter how high of an achievement in acting they do, it is very rare that they are recognized or even noticed by the Academy. But these people have given some amazing and incredible performances over the years, but most of them are sweeped under the red carpet without even a first glance.

Mystery Photo 1-25

Welcome to Monday! So that must me a new Mystery Photo, right? But before we get to the new one, let’s go over last week’s, where we traveled to Italy for a little giallo action. The shot was from the Luciano Ercoli’s 1971 film Death Walks on High Heels. A very entertaining little film if you haven’t seen it. Kudos goes out to the following for sending in the correct answer: Hoby Abernathy, Scott Bradley, Kuba Haczek, and Bryan Martinez!

So on to the new one. This should be an easier one, but maybe it might take a little thinking to get it. Maybe. But take a peek and see what you can come up with. Good luck.

Spanish Shocker Triple Feature!

Exhumed Films - Spanish Horrors

If the east coast survives this lastest snowageddon, in February, the fine folks at Exhumed Films are putting on an amazing triple feature that is putting the spotlight on some awesome Spanish Horror films. I’m sure my feelings might have something to do with the fact that two out of the three films are Paul Naschy films, but that is purely beside the point.

On Friday, Feb. 12th, starting at 7:30pm, they will be screening the following films, all from 35mm prints (which impresses me even more!):
