Mystery Photo 3-28

I didn’t forget this time out! Hopefully everyone enjoyed their weekend, especially if you were lucky to have Friday off! But now that we’re back to the work week, let’s get back to business and get this started, shall we?

Last week’s photo was from Amando de Ossorio’s Night of the Sorcerers! Released in 1974, this has one of the most strangest and bizarre openings that you’ll see. Starring the lovely Loreta Tovar and Jack Taylor, if you’re a fan of Euro-Horror, then you’ll probably will enjoy this one! Kudos to the following for sending in the correct answer: Hoby Abernathy, Elena Anele, Troy Howarth, Doug Lamoreux, Bryan Moose, Richard Schellbach, Michael Shields, Kristin Wicks, and William Wilson. Nice to see this many names for a cult title like this one.

For this week’s photo, we’re moving back into our own country (see…and they say I never give any hints!) to see if you can identify this recently discovered title. Take a good look and see what you can come up with. And don’t worry which title you might know it under, we’ll accept them all. See…yet ANOTHER hint! As usual, please do not post your answer here, but send an email to jon@kitleyskrypt.com. Good Luck!

Naschy’s Crimson Gets Redeption…

Crimson
…Redeption release that is. Okay, for anybody out there, Naschy die-hard fans included, lets not mince words here. We all know that Crimson is not one of his best work. In fact, it is not a good one at all. But for us poor souls that are doomed with the curse of being a completest, we know that we will have to add this new edition from Redemption when it gets released in June.

It Gives Me Hope – HorrorHound Weekend Part 1

show booksIn Cincinnati this last weekend, it was our first stop on the 2016 Kryptic World Tour, and boy, was it a doozy! I’ve been doing this show since the very beginning and am always amazed at the crowds they bring in each and every time. Of course, in this day and age, being a dealer at any convention is always a challenge, since you’re competing not only with other dealers, but more importantly, with the price of autographs and Photo Ops. But I have to say I was thrilled to see so many people stop by our table over the 3-day weekend and purchase a book (or two, or three) from us. It showed me not only that the interests in horror reference books is still out there, but also the desire for fans to learn more about the genre we love. And I have to say, that makes this old man pretty happy.

Okay Hammer Dracula fans, start saving those pennies, because there will be a book coming out this summer that you’re going to want to add to your library. Thanks to the wonderful (and incredibly talented book publishers) people at Peveril Publishing, they will continue to put out amazing looking volumes dedicated to the Studio that Dripped Blood, and that we all love.

Mystery Photo 3-22

Sorry about being a day late with this one, but we didn’t get back from the HorrorHound weekend trip until late. But better late than never, right?

Last week’s photo was from one of my favorites, Timur Bekmambetov’s Night Watch. It has some of the most amazing visuals in here, plus a great and original take on some old familiar themes. Check it out, along with the sequel Day Watch, if you haven’t seen them. But kudos to the following for sending in the correct answer: Neil Calderone, Kuba Haczek, and Richard Schellbach. Well done!

Okay…without any further delay, here’s this week’s photo. Remember not to post your answers here, but send us an email at jon@kitleyskrypt.com.

Interview: Michael Wandmacher

wandmacherbanner
Since we are huge fans of horror soundtracks, when the opportunity presented itself to get an interview with composer Wandmacher, we jumped at the chance. Wandmacher is the composer of one of our favorite scores, Cry Wolf. But he has also done a lot of work in the horror and sci-fi genre, as well as just about all other genres out there.

I’ve been a fan of movie music, so I figured I knew a little bit about it. But after this interview, I was amazed how little I really knew about the process. Plus, it doesn’t hurt when the composer is a big fan of the horror and sci-fi genres to begin with. That just made the interview even more interesting for everyone.

This interview was conducted on Dec. 13th, 2008.

Kitley’s Krypt: How did you get started in composing music for films?

Movie Review: 10 Rillington Place

10 Rillington Place10 Rillington Place (1971)
Directed by Richard Fleischer
Starring Richard Attenborough, Judy Geeson, John Hurt, Pat Heywood, Isobel Black

Being a fan of horror movies for over 40 decades, one would think that “we’ve seen it all”. But that is not even close to being true. In fact, not only is there plenty of movies that I still need to see, there are still a ton of titles out there that I’ve probably not even heard! And while most of them probably aren’t the greatest, there are some out there that are truly amazing pieces of cinema. The kind that after you watch it, you wonder just how in the hell have you never even heard of this movie, let alone seen it before. 10 Rillington Place is a prime example of this.
