While we have a bit of a break here in July, we are definitely going to be busy next month. Actually, on July 31st, we head to our only local convention, Flashback Weekend, which Chicago’s biggest and longest running area horror convention. We’ve been to everyone of their shows since they started back in 2002 and always have a fun time.
Once again, they have a huge guest lineup, from a bunch of guests from the Scream series (David Arquette, Marley Shelton, Dermot Mulroney, Roger L. Jackson, Celeste O’Connor, Joseph Whipp, Jeremy Conner, Kraig Dane, Noah Garrett), to David Naughton and Griffin Dunne from An American Werewolf in London, Tom Atkins, Jason Lively and Jill Whitlow from Night of the Creeps, and Dick Warlock, Susan Shoop, Ana Alicia, Gloria Gifford and Alan Howarth from Halloween 2, and from the first two Silent Night Deadly Night films, Robert Brian Wilson and Eric Freeman, to Jane Levy from Evil Dead (2013), Quinn Lord from Trick ‘r Treat and Spencer Charnas from Ice Nine Kills.
Plus, Fangoria magazine is doing a special convention exclusive issue only available at this Flashback Weekend event. The special issue does a deep dive into the police from the Scream series, as well as looking at the Oscar winning transformation effects from An American Werewolf in London (1981). If you pre-order it, it is only $8 or will be $15 if you pick it up at the convention. Head over to Flashback Weekend’s site by click HERE for all the latest updates and information.

Then the following weekend, we’re heading all the way down to Atlanta for this year’s Monsterama. We’ve been wanting to do this show but because of the distance, we kept putting it off. Until this year! We’re going to give it a try and see how much fun it is! Taking place on Aug. 7th-9th, they have plenty of interesting guests lined up: Kathryn Leigh Scott, Lloyd Kaufman, Richard Christian Matheson, Ali Marie Matheson, Sharon Smyth-Lenz, Jim Storm, Roger Mitchell, Sam Irvin, Tim Bradstreet, Chris Alexander, Penny Dreadful, Jeff Thompson, Clayton Landey, Mark Maddox, Frederick Cooper, and Daniel Griffith. This year’s theme is Mathesontennial – 100 Years of Richard Matheson, as well as celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the TV show Dark Shadows. There will be screenings, panels, and of course the vendor’s room, giving you plenty of stuff to keep you busy.
