Ever since I heard about this show, we wanted to attend. But being in Atlanta, which is about a 12-hour drive, is a bit too long for us. Sure, might be easier to fly, but if we were going, we’d want to be vendors there, which means we’d have to drive. So, I would just sit and look at the events, the guests, and all the fun it looked like everyone was having. But not this year!
Because I wanted to try some other shows that were a little different than the huge convention with massive guests lists, to those where fans were coming to have fun and maybe learn something about the genre. Monsterama, which has been running since 2014, is the brainchild of Anthony Taylor, who I’ve known for a few years since we both attend Monster Bash every year. Just hearing about the way the show is put on, with all the different panels they have, plus the steady stream of films being screened from actual film prints, I knew at some point, I was going to have to make it someday. And this is the year.
This year’s event is taking place on Aug. 7th-9th, at the Atlanta Marriott, and is celebrating the Mathesontennial: 100 Years of Richard Matheson! Any fan of sci-fi / horror might know be familiar with his literary work, but you know his work in film and TV. From doing the Poe adaptations for Roger Corman, to writing 16 episodes of The Twilight Zone, to the film versions created from his short stories, like Duel (1971), The Legend of Hell House (1973), or Stir of Echoes (1999), he always was giving fans something incredible. So, at this year’s Monsterama, they are paying tribute to this incredible talent, with special guests Richard Christian Matheson and Alie Marie Matheson, both who are accomplished writers on their own.
But there is also a wide variety of other guests, such as Jim Storm and Kathryn Leigh Scott from the Dark Shadows TV series, Lloyd Kaufman from Troma, actor Clayton Landey, artist Tim Bradstreet, and Dan Curtis expert, author Jeff Thompson.
At some point, they will start listing the different film screenings and panels that will be going on throughout the weekend, giving fans that come out plenty to do while they are there.

Yea! I’m planning on going as well.
