Next weekend, at the Music Box Theatre in Chicago, there is going to be two screenings you don’t want to miss, with special guest presentation, Keir-La Janisse in attendance. Janisse is the author of House of Psychotic Women: An Autobiographical Topography of Female Neurosis in Horror and Exploitation Films, as well as the writer, director, & producer of the award-winning and freaking amazing documentary Woodlands Dark and Days Bewitched: A History of Folk Horror (2021).
On Friday, March 10th, at 9:30pm they will be screening The Haunting of Julia (1977), starring Mia Farrow and Keir Dullea, which is about a young woman moving out on her own after the death of her daughter and dealing with that. The problem is that it seems there is more haunting her than just her grief. This is a new 4K digital restoration being presented here. This is a rare treat to see a creepy and amazing film.
On Saturday, March 11th, at 9:30pm, they will be screening the 1972 film You’ll Like My Mother, starring Patty Duke, Rosemary Murphy, and Richard Thomas. Duke plays a young and pregnant woman going to visit the mother of her recently dead husband but does not find the warm welcome she was expecting. It gets even worse when the psychotic Thomas shows up. This will be presented in a new DCP restoration and is another rare theatrical screening.
Each night, there will be a pre-screening Q&A with Janisse, discussing the films and her book, House of Psychotic Women. Janisse will have books on hand for sale as well.

Not sure I can justify the drive, but I’m very tempted to go. Huge fan of Janisse (who isn’t?) and would love to meet her.
