Friday Favorites: Holiday Horrors?

Everyone has their traditional horror movie titles they bust out every Halloween, from Night of the Living Dead (1968) to Trick ‘r Treat (2007), to so many other fun flicks. But we know us horror fans do the same thing for Christmas, don’t we? So with the holiday just a couple of weeks away, we want to know what Holiday Horrors you always watch this time of year? While others might be decorating the tree with It’s a Wonderful Life on, you’ve got Silent Night Deadly Night (1984) playing! What are some of the other seasonal favorites for this time of year? Gremlins (1984)? Rare Exports (2010)? Sint (2010)? Krampus (2015)?

Let’s here you!

  1. Black Christmas is the one that has been my seasonal watch during the holidays as well as Silent Night Deadly Night. As for more recent films, Better Watch Out was very enjoyable and will be added to my yearly list.

  2. We just watched Krampus last weekend! Lol! I foresee that we will be introducing Thorin to Gremlins this year as well.
That said, Black Christmas remains firmly entrenched at the top of my Xmas favorites list! Although, I’m not quite sure if the Thorin and Gabe are ready for that one yet. Haha!

  3. Looks like I’m with the majority here that Black Christmas is my top fav. But I really enjoy Christmas Evil, and don’t think it gets enough love. For modern films, Krampus has definitely become a staple.

  4. I like SINT as well. And SANTA’S SLAY for relatively recent x-mas fare. But my all-time favorite Christmas movie isn’t a horror film (though it IS a Hammer movie): CASH ON DEMAND. One of Peter Cushing’s finest (with bonus Andre Morrell). Brilliant.

    • I’m right there with you, Bryan on Cash on Demand. That was one I had read about for so long but it was never available. Then when it finally hit DVD I was amazed that it was even better than I had hoped. Like you said, one of Cushing’s and Morrell’s best performances and just such a great story.

  5. I dont have a Christmas Horror movie that I bust out ever year, but I do like to watch the Christmas part in Amicus’ Tales from the Crypt. And I also love to watch the Christmas Special episode of the Supernatural TV show. The one from season 3. To me that is classic!

    • Glad someone mentioned that episode of Tales from the Crypt. A great addtion to the holiday viewings!

Been a few years since we hit season 3 of Supernatural that I barely remember that episode.

But nobody has mentioned Nightmare Before Christmas. Sure, it might not be qualified as a horror film, but it has all the right elements. And besides, waking up Christmas morning and seeing a giant snake swallowing your Tree???
