In 2010, the Kryptic Army was formed, where brave soldiers fought monthly battles, some much tougher than the last. But they stood tall and face those horrors with honor and pride. But once 2014 came to an end, when all the dust had settled, the wounded were cared for and mended, the war was over, and the soldiers were released from duty.

But now the call to arms has returned. To all the Veterans that served in the last 5-year battle, there are still more challenges ahead, if you wish to return to active duty. If you missed out on the Kryptic Army during those first 5 years, then now is your chance to stand up and show your merit.

Okay, for those who have no idea of what I’m talking about, let me explain. Back in 2010, I started the Kryptic Army, which was a monthly challenge to watch two horror films a month that you had not seen before (that is key) that fell under a particular theme. Could be something as simple as a Hammer movie, or one that was directed by a certain person, or had a particular word in the title. The mission was that you had the whole month to find and watch those films and “report back”, meaning sending in an email with what titles you watched and what you thought.

The reason that I started it was simply to give fans a reason to watch movies they hadn’t seen before. I know a lot of us watch a ton of movies, but sometimes there is always things to do. Being in the Army kind of pushed you at least a couple times a month to pop in a couple of titles. Plus, I also hoped that it would start conversations with other members, or at least give you suggestions of titles to seek out after reading about it from another member.

Back then, there were prizes at the end of the year, but I’m afraid not this time. It will be strictly for the fun of it. But you will earn some street cred, that is for sure.

So… are you interested in enlisting?

Here’s how we’re going to do it this time around.

• Follow our site so you’ll get an email notification when the missions are posted, which will be on the morning of the first day of the month, with the particular theme for that mission.
• You will have until 11:59pm on the last day of the month to find and watch two horror films that you have NOT seen before that fit the current mission.
• Before the end of that month, you’ll then go to the original mission posting and in the comment section, state the two movies you watched and post your thoughts on the two films. It doesn’t have to be a thesis. It can be a sentence or two, just giving us if you enjoyed it or not. Please keep any spoilers out of the report, since you don’t want to ruin it for your fellow soldiers. You don’ t have to wait until the end of the month to post your comments either, but can post them as early as you want.
• Once you post your comments, feel free to post your thoughts on other soldier’s comments as well. The idea is to get that conversation or discussion going.
• Please be mindful of your brothers in arms. Meaning don’t be calling people out because they liked or disliked a movie you disagree with. You can post your opposing opinion, but let’s keep it profession, folks.
