Monster Bash Approaches

In three weeks, we will be heading out to Mars, PA for the annual Monster Bash Conference, and needless to say, we’re pretty excited. This show is the farthest distance that we travel which is why it took us so long before we decided to finally take the plunge. Now I only regret not starting going sooner.

They have a great lineup, including the star of one film that really gave me the creeps as a kid…I Was a Teenage Frankenstein (1957), Gary Conway. Not only was his makeup just gruesome for a little kid to see on TV, at the end when they show this mess of a face in color?!?!?! A movie memory I’ll always remember and treasure.

Joining him at the show is Gary Clarke, who co-starred with Conway in the AIP film How to Make a Monster (1958). They have plenty of other guests including the man behind the gills, Ricou Browning, who played the title star from The Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954) in the underwater sequences.

Mad Monster Party BookBut one of the more recent guest announcements was that of Rick Goldschmidt, author of the book The Enchanted World of Rankin/Bass, as well as Rankin/Bass’ Mad Monster Party, which we picked up from him a couple of years ago at a toy show. Rick has some great stories and fun stuff at his table (or at least he did when I saw him), so make sure you stop by and check him out. Mad Monster Party? (1967) was a staple of my childhood, one that immediately brings back wonderful memories every time I watch it.

Other guests include Mr. BIG himself, Bert I. Gordon, Terry Moore, Larry Storch, Jo Morrow, and more. Head over to the Monster Bash website HERE for all the latest details. Hopefully we’ll see you there.
