New Little Shoppe Coming

That’s right folks, issue # 51 from one of the longest running horror magazines out there, Little Shoppe of Horrors, is now taking orders for their new issue, which features a stunning cover of Nosferatu (1922). Sure, it’s not a Hammer film, but since there is Robert Eggers’ new version coming out in December, LSoH is taking this opportunity to have their usual in-depth “making of” on the very first adaptation of Stoker’s novel, with the article “The Plague of Nosferatu: The Making of a Vampire” by Rolf Giesen, who has written a couple of books on the subject, The Nosferatu Story (read our review of it HERE) and Golem, Caligari, Nosferatu.

Also, to tie into this, there will be an article entitled “Victims of his Imaginations” – Bram Stoker and an unmade Hammer title.

Then there is a couple of features on the sci-fi/horror film The Damned, as well as a piece on Hammer’s first horror title with “The Making of the Mystery of the Mary Celeste”.

Book Review: New Israeli Horror

New Israeli Horror

There is nothing I love more than a doorway that opens up a whole new world to me when it comes to horror cinema. Whether it is a documentary or a book, especially one that its main focus is on a subject of the genre that I’m not familiar with, or maybe know a little, but don’t realize just how little I know. So, when I have the opportunity to venture into that unknown territory, I usually come out excited and anxious to dive into some of that subject matter. All of that encompasses what happened upon reading Gersheson’s book New Israeli Horror.

As I started reading it, I recognized a few titles and even seen a couple mentioned, such as Big Bad Wolves (2013). But then it hit me that several of the titles I had no idea where Israeli films! Nor did I realize the number of films that have come out from Israel in the last couple of decades. Boy did my To-Watch list start to grow.

Discover the Horror Episode 17: Hammer (Is It) Horror

Never Take Candy from a Stranger (1960), The Damned (1963), Plague of the Zombies (1966). These are the three titles covered in this episode, as well as a little discussing on what can be considered “horror” when talking about the famous Studio that Dripped Blood. While some of these titles don’t immediately come to mind when you think of Hammer Horror, digging a little deeper, you might discover it to be there after all. After all, isn’t the whole point of being a horror fan is to go beyond the borders? You never know what you might find and even might be surprised.
