In 2021, I stumbled upon the film Caveat online and decided to give it a try. Not only did it blow me away but made my Top Ten Favorites of the year. You can read my review HERE. Unique, different, and damn creepy, which has a lot to do with that damn stuff rabbit! It was written and directed by Damian Mc Carthy. Then last year, his next film Oddity came out, and I was lucky enough to see that at the theater. Once again, I was just amazed how good it was. You can read my review HERE. Another unique story, an amazing cast, and some very effective and creepy moments, sure to make some squirm in their seats.

2024 Year End Reviews: Best Viewings
I set a record this year with the number of movies I watched in 2024 hitting 442, 216 of them being first time viewings. I’m sure a big part of that was being sick a couple of times, especially getting Covid at the very end of it. I mean, it’s good when I average a movie a day during a month, but in December I hit 75 films! So, I guess there was one positive of having Covid . . . though I wouldn’t wish it on anyone, that is for sure.
As I always state, if you’re watching a movie for the first time, I consider that a new movie. It doesn’t matter what year it came out, it’s new to you. So, when I compile my Best Viewings for the year, it’s always taking that into consideration. Usually in any year, a good number of my titles in my Top Ten are not from that current year, most of them actually usually are from decades before. This year was quite different. Eight of my Top Ten were from 2024, with one being from 2023, and the last being from 2017. That tells me that not only did I watch a lot of new releases this year, but there were a lot of great ones released this year.
As usual, these are in alphabetical order, since I’m lucky to get them down to ten films. Although there is one that is my absolute favorite for the year, but you’ll have to read on to find out which one it is!

As 2024 comes to an end, we look in a rearview mirror filled with some amazing films, especially ones that came out this year. Filmmakers around the world wowed us with creative stories, intriguing plots and outstanding techniques. It is definitely a great time to be a horror fan.
2024 was another stellar year for us at the podcast, where we covered a wide variety of subjects, from Bigfoot to Amicus Films, from Women Directors to Al Adamson & Sam Sherman, to more obscure topics like German Expressionism, and much more. We also had an astonishing lineup of special guests including Severin’s David Gregory, Vinegar Syndrome’s Archivist Oscar Becher, HorrorHound’s Aaron Crowell, and Will Morris from Oscarbate and The Music Box Theatre, just to name a few.
One thing that continues through this year is our constant love and admiration for those that have made some long-lasting impact on the genre, and our constant striving to help share that love with our listeners. Nothing excites us more than hearing that we’ve turned someone on to a film or filmmaker or even sub-genre that they might have not experienced before. And you can be damned sure that we plan to continue that in 2025.
So, join us in this extra-long special episode as we go over our favorite viewings of this year, as well as some shout-outs and discussions on other films that came out in 2024.

Caveat (2020)
24 Tracks with a Total Running Time of 71:10 min.
Music by Richard G. Mitchell
I stumbled across this movie in 2021 on Prime one night, not knowing anything about it but since it had a creepy looking stuffed rabbit with human looking eyes in it, I figured it could be interesting. Boy was that an understatement! I counted it as in my Top Ten Viewings for the year. The movie just oozes creepiness. So much strange stuff is going on, but it really gets under your skin. One of the reasons for that, I feel, is because of the score from Richard G. Mitchell.

(2024)
Director Damian Mc Carthy
Starring Carolyn Bracken, Gwilym Lee, Tadhg Murphy, Steve Wall, Caroline Menton, Johnny French
I had the wonderful opportunity to recently see this new film by director Mc Carthy, even though at the time, I had no idea it was from the director of Caveat (2020), which I counted as my favorite of the year I saw it, in 2021. During one part of the movie, scrolling past a display case, you can see that scary little rabbit from Caveat and then it all clicked!
