Full Lineup for Midway’s Dusk-to-Dawn Horrorfest

Over at the Midway’s website, they have the final lineup posted for this year’s Dusk-to-Dawn horrorfest and it is a beauty!

Originally announced at their show, one of the titles were going to be Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, but that is no longer showing on their lineup. But they still have some other great classics in there. They had already posted that they would be screening James Cameron’s Aliens (1986) and Romero’s Day of the Dead (1985), but now have announced what the other two features are going to be.

Halloween II (1981), the one that I would consider the best of all the Halloween sequels, and one that I still think holds up rather well these days, will be the second feature in the lineup, right after Aliens.

Dusk-To-Dawn Horrorfest at Midway Drive-in

midway1

Okay drive-in fans, here’s the date for the Midway Drive-In’s annual Dusk-To-Dawn Horrorfest: Sept. 23rd! So mark your calendar!

So far, they have only announced two of the four features they will be screening. The first one is the full uncut version of James Cameron’s Aliens. I think the last time I got to see this on the big screen when it was first released, but that was the shorter theatrical cut. So this will be a nice treat.

The second feature announced is Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors. I’m not a huge fan of the later films in this series, but this one is still a lot of fun. Great special effects on display here!

Nightmare 3

We will be set up outside the concession area, as always. Along side Jill & Greg from Lix, you’ll be able to do a little shopping in between the films and picking up some snacks at the concession stands. Hope to see you there!

Support the Drive-In…Eat THEIR Food!

Drive In Lose Money

We recently came across this photo on Facebook and it prompted me to take a few minutes to try and help get this point out there to a few more people, and try to help explain why this is a very important message. Regular visitors to the Krypt know my love for the Drive-In Theaters, especially when they have their all night horror movie marathons! Trust me, one does not drive hundreds and hundreds of miles to watch movies outside out of boredom. There is just something about the drive-in and the experience of the whole thing. I keep using the term “experience” because it really is. From sitting in your car (or out in front of it on lawn chairs), to the atmosphere, the food, the people, everything about it adds up to a great night, and one that takes you back to a different era. Maybe it was because I grew up going to these as a teenager that it reminds me of those times when I visit them today.

An Indoor Drive-In?

That’s right…an indoor drive-in.

When I first heard news of this new $10 million indoor drive-in near Nashville, I actually thought it was a regular drive-in but had a cover over it, like one of those indoor sports field. At that point, I thought that was the coolest idea since the invention of the corndog! But the more I read through a few different articles on this, it isn’t what I thought it was. While it is an indoor theater, the cars are just permanently parked there. Not sure if they are actual even real cars or just seats fabricated classic car. So while it has the look and set up of a drive-in, not sure if it is going to have the real feel of one.

Movie Events, Marathons, and Madness

When this time of year comes around, there is one thing that you can be sure of….busy weekends! With the Halloween season right around the corner, there are plenty of different movie events coming up, from Dusk to Dawn shows at the drive-ins, to 24-hour marathons, to simple movie screenings of classic monster flicks. With so many to choose from, it’s time to start marking them down in your calendar and start making those plans. Here’s a little run down of the events that we know about coming up in the Chicagoland area. I’m sure there are more, but here’s the ones that I know about. Feel free to leave a notice about one near you in the comment section if you’d like. The more word we can get about these events, the more we can help support them!

Drive-in Madness!

For those with the love of the drive-in experience, then get ready to mark your calendars! We’ve got some updates of some events happening at a couple different drive-in theaters that we go to so we want to spread the word.

skyline monster fest 2016

Now the Skyline Drive-In in Shelbyville, IN, is holding their annual Super Monster Movie Fest, which we’ve reported on before here. You can get all the info on their website HERE, or at least what they’ve updated so far. That is taking place on Aug. 26th & 27th with the below features scheduled:

Upcoming Movie Events!

nightmareelmstNo better way to get into the upcoming Halloween season than to plan some all night movie marathons of some classic movies, right? Well, there’s a couple of events coming up in the Chicago area over the next couple of months that everyone should not only know about, but make plans to attend at least some of them. Of course, it is not just because we are going to have a vendor table set there either! But honestly, these are the kind of events where crazy horror film fans can get together and celebrate some incredible films amongst their peers!

The first event is in a little over two weeks away, on Sept. 19th, at the Midway Drive-In, for their annual Dusk to Dawn Drive In Horror Fest. We’ve been to the Midway countess times and always have a blast there. For this event, they are screening a couple of features in tribute to Wes Craven, with screenings of A Nightmare on Elm Street and the original Hills Have Eyes. But they are also screening An American Werewolf in London and Motel Hell. Lots of fun to be had there. Of course, there will also be plenty of vintage trailers and classic drive-in advertisements, as well as yours truly set up outside the concession booth, along with our good friends at Lix. Tickets are only $12 for adults and $5 for kids 3-11. Head over to their website HERE for all the details, and we hope to see you there.

Come and Celebrate the Drive-In!

midway-phantasmSure, this might not be the first time I’ve waved this flag, but there are a couple of events coming up that I wanted to bring to everyone’s attention. As I’ve posted before, next weekend the Kitley crew will be heading down just south of Indianapolis, to the Skyline Drive-in in Shelbyville. The are holding their annual 3-night all night monster movie marathon. We won’t be leaving until late on Friday but am still hoping to catch the last 3 titles scheduled. Then we will be staying over night and catching all 5 titles on Saturday night. Having the opportunity to see films like Tarantula, Horror Express, Island of Lost Souls, not to mention the original King Kong, really is like dream come true for a movie nut like me. But the drive-in is so much more than just the movies. Yes, it is a great time, but it is also that step back into time, when going to the drive-in really was an experience and one that is remembered for years to come. You can get all the information about this even HERE.
