Ahh…the late ‘80s….when gore was running rampant and thought provoking storylines were nowhere to be seen. As horror fans, If the movie was outrageous enough, we didn’t mind the absurdity of the plot. We didn’t care if the dialog was hilariously bad. As long as we got some well done and outrageous gore we were happy. Which is probably why the 1982 film Pieces, from director Juan Piquer Simón, was such a success, since it is probably one of the most enjoyable ‘bad’ movies ever made. It had a ton of over-the-top gore, outrageous dialog, and a plethora of wacky and fun characters. It is one that is enjoyed even more in a large group of like-minded fans.

The Rift Rises From Obscurity

Last year in my column for HorrorHound, I wrote about this little flick, The Rift (aka Endless Descent), from Juan Piquer Simón, releasedin 1990. In fact, it was among the titles we watced during our Turkey Day in May event last Spring. Needless to say, we this movie is a lot of fun. But we had to watch it from an old VHS transfer since it had never gotten a DVD release. Until now.

Grindhouse Releasing Pieces Bluray

We all know the incredible job Grindhouse Releasing has done with their releases, putting more time and care into some of these cult movies that most people wouldn’t give two seconds to. And they are still add it, with this Blu-ray release of Juan Piquer Simón’s uber slasher flick Pieces. But this isn’t just the movie, but a 3-disc set with a plethora of extras. For those of you who picked up their special 2-dsic DVD set years ago, you will still want to add this edition to your collection.
