Christopher Lee Tributes!

hammerbluraysetAfter the passing of Christopher Lee earlier this month, there has been a lot of tributes being presented, which I’m grateful to the fact that he is being remembered for his huge contribution to cinema in general, not to mention what he gave us horror fans over the years, that thankfully we will still be able to enjoy for many more years to come.

One of those reasons that we are able to keep the memories alive of these wonderful actors that gave us so many chills over throughout our lives is that even though they have passed on, their movies still remain. And now thanks to Warner Home Video, 3 films that feature the late Christopher Lee will be unleashed in a 4-disc blu-ray set entitled the Hammer Horror Collection. this will feature The Mummy, Dracula Has Risen from the Grave, Taste the Blood of Dracula, and Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed. Since this is being called Volume 1, we can only hope that there are more to come. Not sure of any extras that might be on these discs, but even if they are just the films alone, I’m sure they will be well worth the price. The set will be released in October, a perfect time too, with a retail price of around $55. Not bad for 4 films if you ask me.

Drive-In Super Monster-Rama

Back in 2011, we headed out to Pennsylvania for this drive-in event, making a little vacation of it and just had one hell of a time. If we were only closer to this, we would be there each and every time. But this year, they have one hell of an incredible line up. I mean, where else could you have the chance to see 4 of the Roger Corman Poe films on one night at a drive-in theater? Then the next night, see two classic Hammer Dracula films, along with two other vampire classics? Almost makes me want to move!

If you are in the area, or feel like making one amazing road trip out there, I couldn’t recommend this event enough. DVD Drive-In and the Riverside Drive-In Theatre continue to work their ass off keeping the drive-in experience alive for both the young and old, and always coming up with some great titles. Maybe one of these days we’ll make it out there again.

Sci-Fi Spectacular – Free Autographs!

sci-fiSpec2015It has been a while since we’ve been to a movie marathon so I think it is about time. This Saturday, we’ll be heading into Chicago to the Patio Theater for this year’s Sci-Fi Spectacular, which features “16 Hours of Sci-Fi and Horror Madness”, though according to the lineup, it only goes to about 2:30am, which is about a feature short of 16 hours. But no worries, because they have a great lineup of titles that will be great to see on the big screen, no matter if they are DVD projection or from a film print.

They also have a couple of guests that will be there, but will also be signing FOR FREE! See that…it is possible to get some guests for an event that don’t charge. Plus, along with that signature, you can get your picture taken with them, again FOR FREE! Jack Sholder, director of The Hidden, Alone in the Dark, Nightmare on Elm Stree 2, almongst other titles, will be there, along with actress Jennifer Rubin, who appeared in Screamers, The Wasp Woman, Bad Dreams, Nightmare on Elm Street 3, as well as a few other titles out there. Plus there will be vendors, short films, and plenty of other cool stuff to keep you awake and entertained.

The Beyond at the Music Box Theatre

Later on this evening, I will be heading into Chicago for a midnight screening of Lucio Fulci’s The Beyond, thanks to not only the Music Box but also Grindhouse Releasing for all of their hard work they have done on this. But why drive the hour+ long drive into the city to see a movie that I’ve already seen twice on the big screen at this same theater, not to mention having seen it upon its original release back in the ’80s (although in a highly cut version, under the re-titling of Seven Doors of Death)? Because of many reasons.

beyond3First and foremost, The Beyond is one of my favorite movies, so having the chance to see this on the big screen is one that I’m going to take advantage of whenever I can. Also it is to show support. Support to folks at Grindhouse Releasing for all of their hard work that they do in preserving this amazing films. And support to the Music Box Theatre for continuing to screen these kind of films. If we don’t support this kind of work, then they are going to wonder why bother and stop them.

And the most important reason….YOU GET TO SEE A LUCIO FULCI CLASSIC ON THE BIG SCREEN!!!!

So…we’ll see you there, right?
