Yeah, I know…. didn’t get to the Mystery Photo this week. Next week, I promise! Just gives another week for those that haven’t figured it out yet!
I spent a good portion of the weekend at the Music Box Theatre in Chicago for the Beyond Chicago film fest. Got to see Udo Keir in Flesh for Frankenstein in 3D, which was amazing. Yeah, it is campy as hell but seeing the way it was meant to be seen, with a good crowd, it was a lot of fun. Glad I could check that off my bucket list!
Also got to see Boorman and the Devil, the new documentary on the making of Exorcist II: The Heretic (1977) by David Kittredge, who was in attendance for an introduction and Q&A afterwards. Then a screening of original theatrical print of Exorcist II in 35mm! What a great way to view it, right after seeing the documentary! Sure, the movie is still a mess, but at least you have much better understanding what was going on during the making, including John Boorman almost dying. A lot of changes being made, so it does make you wonder what it could have been like. But also, that it was made to be so very different from the original film, which they did just that. Don’t think I’ll need to watch part 2 again for another couple of decades, but I’m glad I saw it like that. But I would highly recommend seeing Boorman and the Devil if/when you get the chance. You won’t be disappointed. Though… it might make you want to rewatch part 2… just a warning.
But one of the reasons for the lack of updates, other than trying to make up for the lack of sleep over the weekend, is that this weekend, we are making our journey to Strongsville, Ohio for this year’s Cinema Wasteland. The fact that there is no October show still hasn’t hit me. I don’t know how many more of these shows are going to happen, but since I’ve never missed one since that very first one in September of 2000, I don’t plan on starting now. I do know that I’m going to remind myself multiple times over this coming weekend, just how God damn special this show is, and how much fun I’ve had over those last 25 years, not to mention how many friends I’ve made in those years. Going to be taking plenty of photos. So many great memories, and yes, still more to be made!
The next show we’re vending at will be the Columbus Moving Picture Show, which isn’t just horror, but if you’re a memorabilia collector, you might want to look into it! Plus, they are screening 2 Boris Karloff pictures on Friday night! For all the latest info, head over HERE. Hope to see some of you there!
If you are heading out to Cinema Wasteland this weekend, if you see me, stop me and say hello! I know I’ll be wandering the dealer room most of the weekend and then hanging out in the bar until the wee hours of the morning! Just click HERE to get all the juicy details about this weekend’s show!
