That’s right . . . not only are there close to 300 drive-in theaters still up and running, but there are ones where the current owners have already retired or are going to be soon and are looking to sell it. It’s a lot of work, but when you love something as much as movies and keeping something this nostalgic alive, you never know.
Okay, maybe you’re not in a good spot to be making that kind of an investment, but how about just finding an operating drive-in that you can head out to for an enjoyable evening of movies and family fun? Head over to the Drive-ins Near Me website (by clicking HERE) and locate one that is by you. It will give you a list by state or just by looking at the map.
This website has a lot of information for the drive-in enthusiast out there, from finding one by you, but also learning about the history of them, news and different events, and even information about Drive-In Con happening this November at the Aut-O-Rama Drive-In Theatre in North Ridge, Ohio. There will be discussions and master classes on drive-in ownership, as well as networking and hearing stories from other drive-in owners.
Check out the little video below for some more information. Then look into finding a drive-in by you. It’s important for us to keep these theaters alive and running, for not only our generation, but for the future ones. These theaters are a great place for a family fun evening, with great movies, all kind of snacks, and just good old-fashioned entertainment. We attend a couple different drive-ins a few times each year, such as The Midway Drive-in in Dixon, IL and the Skyline in Shelbyville, IN, and will continue to support them.
