“Woe be unto him who opens one of the seven gateways to Hell,
because through that gateway, evil will invade the world.”
It looks like Grindhouse Releasing will be opening that gateway once again, with their new special edition of Lucio Fulci’s The Beyond (1981). And this looks to be one amazing release that all Fulci fans are going to want to have.
This new “Super-Deluxe” collector’s edition will come with 6 discs: 1 UHD, 3 Blu-Rays, 1 DVD, and 1 CD. The UHD is from a new 4K scan from the original Techniscope camera negative. Besides that, there will be The Beyond: The Composer’s Cut, featuring a new 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio Surround sound remix and an all-new reimagined score created by original composer Fabio Frizzi, mixed Jussi Tegelman.
This will have 3 different audio commentaries, 1 from cinematographer Sergio Salvati, 1 from makeup artist Giannetto De Rossi, and then 1 from actors David Warbeck and Catriona MacColl. Some of these have already left us, so it is so great to be able to keep their memories of working on the film alive.
There will be interviews with seemingly everyone that worked on the film! You’ll hear from director Lucio Fulci, stars Catriona MacColl, David Warbeck, Cinzia Monreale, Al Cliver, Michele Mirabella, Giovanni De Nava, writers Dardano Sacchetti and Giorgio Mariuzzo, cinematographer Sergio Salvati, producer Fabrizio De Angelis, composer Fabio Frizzi, U.S. production manager Larry Ray, make-up artists Giannetto De Rossi and Maurizio Trani, stuntmen Ottaviano Dell’Acqua & Massimo Vanni, soundmen Ugo Celani & Pino Colizzi, original U.S. distributor Terry Levene, Fulci biographer Michele Romagnoli, Fulci historian Simone Scafidi, legendary poster artist Emanuele Taglietti, and Antonella Fulci.
Plus, one of the things in this release that has me excited is there will be a bonus DVD of the original American cut of the film, under the title 7 Doors of Death. This is the version that I first saw when it hit the theater I was working at back in the early ’80s, with no idea how much of an impact this film would later have with me. You’ll be able to see a version that has quite a bit of the gore cut out, with a completely different musical soundtrack, and then realize how lucky we are to be able to see this film in its original gory glory!
This release will also include a 100-page book by Martin Beine and Jesper Mørch, as well as the bonus CD of the new Composer’s Cut soundtrack by Fabio Frizzi, remastered from the original studio master tapes. Add in huge still galleries, theatrical trailers, a super-deluxe slipcover with new artwork by Italian poster artist Emaneule Taglietti, and even a few more surprises not announced yet.
You can pre-order your copy now by heading over to Grindhouse Releasing (just click HERE). There are a couple of different releases to choose from, depending on how much you want to spend!
