Music by Pablo Fuu
Being a huge fan of Demián Rugna’s film Terrified (2017), I was very excited to see this new one when it briefly hit the theaters last year. Wow. Hadn’t been hit by a film like this one in quite a long time.
One of the reasons this film is so effective is the music created by Pablo Fuu. It seems as of now, the only way to get it is a digital download, but hopefully there will be an actually physical release of it. In the meantime, here’s our thoughts on the score.
Now, I’m not any sort of expert on music, but it seems one of the predominant instruments used throughout the score is the cello, which is used perfectly for this score. Adding to the sense of dread and darkness to the film, Fuu uses the cello, with its slow moving, almost guttural vibrating sound, giving it enough to make the hairs on your neck stand up. But then there are quicker paced sequences, with the bow of the cello skipping or bouncing across the strings, even speeding up with a quick rhythm to get the heart rate pumping! No matter the speed, it is building tension. And all of it comes down deep, with that low, deep bass sound.
I found this score to be a perfect companion for the darkness that emits from the film, and Fuu’s talent really shines through, highlighting the feeling already seeping through the screen, right into your soul.
