When is the last time you got to see George Romero’s Night of the Living Dead in a theater? From a 35mm print? Now when it the last time you got to see it on a 90-ft. screen? And on a drive-in that was around and running when this horror classic first opened way back in 1968? Then mark the date of May 18th on your calendar, because if you head out to the Midway Drive-in in Sterling, IL, not only will you be able to see the zombie film that started it all, in 35mm, but you’ll also get to see the two sequels, Dawn of the Dead (1978) and Day of the Dead (1985), and finally The Crazies (1973), of three of which are being screened from DCP.
The Midway Drive-in opened in 1950 and is still running. Granted, they have updated quite a bit since then!!! But they have recently added a new reel to reel 35mm projector and are going to be breaking it in with one of the best zombie films ever made, not to mention the two follow up features. And yes, while The Crazies isn’t technically a film about the living dead, it’s pretty damn close in the theme, not to mention being a damn good film.
Gates will open at 5pm and there will be horror vendors there selling t-shirts, posters, books, and more! Did I mention that we’ll be set up there too! And of course, there’s plenty of great food to feast on at the concession stand, including corn dogs!!! It’s just a great way to spend a Saturday night, seeing the ultimate classics in zombie cinema up on a HUGE screen!
$20 for adults and kids (3-11) are only $10. The pre-show starts around 8:15pm, with plenty of classic trailers and vintage drive-in ads! So much fun, so make sure you come out and join us! For all the info, just click HERE!
