On May 18th, at the Midway Drive-In, located in Sterling, IL, they are having a special tribute to George Romero’s by screening the first three films in his Dead trilogy, Night of the Living Dead (1968), Dawn of the Dead (1978), and Day of the Dead (1985). And as a bonus, after Day, they will be screening The Crazies (1978), which I have to say is a nice addition to these other nihilistic films.
If you’re not close to the Midway, skip down to the bottom!
I know I have seen Night of the Living Dead a few times at the drive-in, not to mention in regular theaters, but no matter how many times you might have watched it on your TV at home, there is nothing like seeing this on the big screen, especially a 90-foot-wide screen like at the Midway! Honestly, same goes for the rest of the films screening at this event. So, if you haven’t, now is your chance!
Plus, it’s at the drive-in!!! What a perfect way to spend the spring evening, under the stars, watching people getting ripped apart by zombies? I can’t think of a better way. Then there are all the tasty treats at the snack bar, like corn dogs, popcorn, hamburgers and cheeseburgers, pizza, and so much more. Did I mention they have corn dogs?
To tempt you even more to come out, there will be some horror vendors set up, Kitley’s Krypt included! Mark your calendar to come out to the Midway and celebrate the horrible beauty of what George Romero has given us film fans, seeing them the way they were meant to be seen! For all the latest information, head over to their website HERE.
BUT . . . if you’re not close to the Midway, you still might have a chance to celebrate Romero and the Dead! It isn’t just the Midway participating in this celebration, but drive-ins and regular theaters across the country, and even in Canada. For all the information, just head over to DAWN45.COM, where you can go to your own state to see where it is playing near you.
