What could make the month of October even better? The announcement from Mondo Macabro that they are releasing another Naschy film in 4K & Blu-Ray! Going on sale tomorrow as part of their Flash Pre-Sale, you’ll be able to order the 2-disc special edition of Dr. Jekyll and the Werewolf!
Now just so everyone knows up front, there were several of Naschy films (and Spanish horror films in general) where they would film one scene with nudity, then film it again with them clothed. This title is one of those, and as hard as they tried, after searching for close to a year, they could not locate the film material for the export version, which has the nudity. They only had the Spanish “clothed” cut of the film. So, they were able to add the inserts to it to create the uncut version, but this will only be on the Blu-ray disc of the film, where the UHD disc will have the Spanish “clothed” version.
This edition is limited to only 2000 copies, that have both the UHD and the Blu-ray versions. All future releases will just have the Blu-ray disc. The pre-sale for this edition starts later today. Check their site HERE to see if it has been listed yet.
As for the extras, once again, they have packed it full of great stuff. As we stated, the first disc will be the Spanish “clothed” cut in a brand new 4K restoration. It will have Spanish audio with optional English subtitles, as well as an English dubbed track.
Disc 2 will feature the 1080p version, taken from the 4K restoration, as well as the “export version” in 1080p with the extra scenes taken from SD sources. Both with have both Spanish and English language tracks as well as English subs.
It will also have the following:
– Archival interview with Paul Naschy about the film
– Career profile of Jack Taylor
– Jack Taylor on “Fantaterror”
– Film maker Victor Matellano on the career of director Leon Klimovsky
– Brand new audio commentary from Rodney Barnett and Troy Guinn of the NaschyCast
– Exclusive slipcover; reversible inner sleeve with new art by Rick Melton and original poster art on each side
– Set of lobby card reproductions
– 20-page full color booklet with new writing on the film by Mirek Lipinski
– Limited to 2000 copies

My favorite of the Naschy films I’ve seen so far… which have been quite a few by now. You’d be proud of me, Jon!
