The Haunting of Julia to Hit Blu-Ray

Before the success of the 1981 adaptation of Peter Straub’s 1979 novel Ghost Story, and earlier novel simply called Julia, published in 1975, was made into a film called Full Circle, but was released over here in the states under the title The Haunting of Julia. Mia Farrow stars as a recently separated woman who is struggling to regain her life back after the death of her young daughter. She moves to London to start that new life, but the place she picks seems to have another presence there, one of a young girl. Also starring Keir Dullea, Tom Conti, Jill Bennett & Robin Gammell.

This was released a couple of times on VHS back in the ’80s, the first time in 1981 from Media Home Entertainment, and then again in 1988 by Magnum Entertainment. But it has never gotten a DVD or Blu-ray release until now. And it is about time! For those that love a classic type of ghost story, one filled with some interesting characters and plenty of creepy elements, this is for you. Farrow is perfect in this role of a trouble woman trying to hold on to what sanity she has left after such a tragic loss.

Imprint Films is not only releasing this one Blu-Ray, but it will also be in a new 1080 high-definition presentation from a 4K scan from the original negative! It will also contain a new audio commentary with the director Richard Loncraine. There will also be a commentary by film historians Jonathan Rigby and Kevin Lyons, a video essay by film historian Kat Ellinger, and new interviews with production designer Brian Morris, associate producer Hugh Harlow, and composer Colin Towns. In fact, this release will also include a newly remastered CD soundtrack, featuring 20 minutes of previously unheard music!

The release date is set for April, but since Imprint is an Australian company, you’ll need a player that can play Region B discs. Those of us that have all region plays don’t need to worry about it! The price is listed at AUD$69.95 which works out to about $50 in U.S. dollars.

I have always been a fan of this really creepy movie and I’m a sucker for a good ghost story, so I can’t wait for this to come out! For more information, head over to Imprint Film’s site HERE.
