Seeing this movie the first time, the music blended in so well, that I didn’t even realize how effective it was until I had gotten the score and listened to it by itself. Wow.

The slow and somber music fits so well with the story and the feeling of the film so well. What I get from hearing this music is being alone and isolation. It just seems out of your speakers, like the quietness of the main character, Eli. It’s quiet, peaceful, but yet still gives off a eerie feeling to it.

This isn’t really something you’d play if you’re wanting a traditional ‘scary’ sounding score, but you’d be amazed at how effective this is, as it sinks into your brain. Some tracks, like Track 5, Oscar in Love, is a beautiful slow piano piece that really shows the loneliness of the character. Even with the piano, underneath of that is the slow strings giving off a eeriness feeling almost hidden away. Track 20, Going Home, is one of my favorites on this whole score. It burst forth with emotion, even as quiet and slow as it is. Sadness, peaceful, and even hope, all rolled into it.

This is one of my favorite scores of all time. Simple as that.
