FAB Press News

nightmareusaFor those out there that are horror reference book collectors, then you know the amazing editions that FAB Press has released over the years. And if you know about FAB Press, then you know that their titles tend to not only quicly go out of print, but once they do, they fetch some high prices on the secondary market. I know for the longest time, finding a copy of Stephen Thrower’s Nightmare USA would set you back well over $100. Of course, now that a 2nd printing has happened, you can find them easily around the $50 price tag. Or course, even at that price, well worth the investment!

But there are some other FAB titles that were out of print that are making their comeback. The first one is another Thrower title, Beyond Terror: The Films of Lucio Fulci. In fact, this one isn’t just a 2nd printing, but it is an expanded edition, featuring 100 pages more, as well as the look of it going through a major revision, with a ton of new color illustrations being added. The retail for this new edition is $69.95 and will be out at the end of this September.

Another title that fans have been looking is Alan Jones Dario Argento: The Man, The Myth, & His Magic. While this was a revised edition of Jones’ long out of print Profondo Argento from 2004, this newer edition was a must have title. But yet again, out of print! But this August, FAB will be unleashing this title again, except this will be in a ‘flexibound’ edition. Not sure exactly what that means, but if you don’t have this book already, I’m sure it will worth investing the price of $49.95, especially since the hardcover versions of the last edition goes for well over $100.

Of course, also coming out in the last summer/early fall, is a couple of other titles that you might want to add to your collection. The first title, Satanic Panic: Pop-Cultural Paranoia in the 1980s, sold out right away. So FAB is putting out a 2nd edition which will be available this August. The price is $29.95 for this 368 page hardcover edition, edited by Kier-La Janisse, and is not one to be missed this time around. I know I did, and I will make sure that doesn’t happen again!

The last title that we want to mention I believe is a new title from author Alan Jones, called The Frightfest Guide to Exploitation Movies, that is coming out this September. It is a softcover edition, 240 pages, for the price of $29.95. Don’t know a lot about this book other than it covers 200 titles from the annals of exploiation films, with titles such as I Spit on Your Grave, Ilsa, She Wolf of the SS, Deranged, Zombie, and many others. The book even has the forward written by Buddy Giovinazzo, director of the 1984 cult film Combat Shock.

So I guess the lesson here is to start saving your money! And when a title comes out that you know you’re going to want for your library, maybe you should pre-order it to make sure you get a copy!
